Joined: November 2005 Posts: 82 Location: Michigan | I'm not sure if I am gonna sell it, but my 1114-4 in Excellent condition with an almost invisible finish crack (won't even show up in a picture) and a small flaw in the finish in the center of the headstock (also won't show). Has ohsc, in good condition. The neck is too wide for my small hands and I'd like something with a soft V neck. From posts around here and on the bay i think my gitfiddle has a street value of around 550.oo but would let it go for a nice usa made anything with electronics and mid depth or deep bowl with hsc in good condition. I WOULD PREFER A TRADE!!! features of 1114-4 -12th Fret Body Joint (very popular these days) -Wide Classical Style Fingerboard (also popular) -Slotted Peg Head (ditto) -no belly on top, perfectly flat -pretty much a josh white without his name when I bought this guitar, the guitar shop owner (a friend) told me that a woman had it in her closet for 20 years, it had old classical strings on it, and sounded tight like a brand new guitar until I played it in. I will try to Post pics, If You're interested in discussing a trade or purchase of this guitar leave a message on this post.

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 82 Location: Michigan | Thanks for the nice comments! I like the guitar a lot, but the neck is so wide I can barely play it. i didn't have that problem at first, but now i play more 4 string eletric bass and mandolin, so switching to a radically wider neck is very difficult for me. it has the 2nd best tone I've ever heard, 2nd only to my friends cedar topped cut away ovation. but given that my only choice would be to have the neck shaved (EEEK!) or a finger implant from a NBA center, i have to hope someone will want this fine instrument. i would consider cash offers as well as trade, and think of the price I posted as fair, but would consider less. I JUST WANT HER TO HAVE A GOOD HOME! I will also require a phone interview with possible adoption canidates.

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 82 Location: Michigan | well, since there dont seem to be any more offers for trades coming in, I'll just post the price I want to get out of it. $450 +Shipping. It will be tuned to D standard to relive a bit of tension (in case it's cold overnight) shipped any way you like, but professionally packed. I will not ship without at least 1,000 in insurance though. when i last checked UPS ground was between $30 and $50 most places.

Do not use the term vintage, rare, classic or any of the other overused cliches. Run a 7 day listing. Open bidding at $1 and hold a reserve at $750 (unrealistic price). Have the auction end at 7:30 pm Pacific Standard Time. Whatever the highest bid is - that's your market value.

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 82 Location: Michigan | thanks MWoody! that's handy advice. I dont want to offer an unfair price. If 450 is too much, maybe I'll consider the Offer i got that wasnt too far off from it. It's different for me than most people on this board as I have constrained myself to 1 acoustic or acoustic electric guitar, and constrained my price to what i can get out of this one. My wife plays too (we both play several instruments) so her vote is a determining factor as well.

I am not suggesting that as a market value for yours. I think I got a steal because the seller didn't know what he had, was misinformed by a "luthier", posted a poor picture and it had a cracked brace that caused a rattle. That took me about 15 minutes to fix. It was one of the rare times I got lucky on ebay. If you don't need to sell yours in a distress sale, you might consider $350 as your bottom line and try to go up from there. When I was in the market, I would not have paid $550 for a 1114, but I might have paid $400. Many other people paid around $400 for 1614s at that time, but the market is generally a little better for sellers if the guitars have the preamp.

I hate to see him parting with it also, but I do understand the small hand problem. Hold your ground JFK and good luck on your sale attempt.

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 82 Location: Michigan | I'll post the more informed price now. $468 including shipping and packaging. I want to have it professionally packed at a UPS store, and shipped ground with 1k of insurance. If anyone is in Michigan and wants to pick it up, I will sell it for $400. Imagine how much this guitar would be worth if it had the same specs as an O but with a mahogany or rosewood back, and was from an american maker in the late 60's early 70's, at least 1200 dollars i think. Of course, the neck would be wonky and there would be numerous dings and scratches in the top, but hey, its vintage wood! :p
