Hello Ovation fans,

I am still seeking a natural finish deep bowl custom legend from the 70's or 80's. I've been searching dilligently for over a month, but no luck. It seems like there are plenty of 1869's and black 1719's available, but no natural finish 1619's or 1119's. I guess I need to stay patient since I'm limiting myself to this particular guitar, but it's getting depressing. I played one and now nothing else will do. Why are the natural finish deep bowl custom legends so hard to find? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Jeff

Be patient.

They "come around" every once in a while . . .

I still kick myself for failing to buy the one that was here, Jeff. My wife would have insisted that I sell it to you. We missed it by a couple days.

I just bought a New 1719 Custom Legend.
Not much diffence, electronics are better and easier battery access. Built in tuner is a great feature.
Order one with a natural finish.
Plus you have 20 years less wear on the frets and
not worry about worn out tuning gears, neck resets or dead electronics etc.
Call Al get a price.
can't hurt.

Pez,

I considered buying a new 1719, but there's something about that warm tone of the 20 year old wood. It really "opens up" over the years, and the frets can always be replaced. My Martin is only 15 years old, but the face has changed hues to a sort of golden honey since it was new. The tone just keeps getting better.

I will just have to be patient.

Jeff

On his website, Al's got a 30th Anniversary CL. You should talk to him about that. They sound great now and will just get better and better over time....

Yes, Jeff, I forgot about that. The 30th is a very faithful recreation with modern electronics. Mine sounds as good as one of the originals, it just has a little "crisper" tone that will have to mellow with the years. If you just play it a bunch in a couple years it will sound like a 20 year old.

I too am amazed at the tone of the 1719-30CM for a relatively new guitar, which I have only had for a week (thanks again Stuart). I sold off all of my Martins. Al's new old stock 30th can't last for much longer.

I hope you are able to get your Christmas present, Jeff. I think you might like a new CL with all the qualities of an old one, but the benefit of having the original owner's lifetime warranty. Al will treat you right.

I have a 1995 1719 Custom Legend for sale. She's sunburst and a real player. I'm not sure waht to ask for her. I'm looking for a cutaway or I'd keep her. Interested? Paul
