Just personal thoughts but the 1581 ReIssue blows away the original 1581 because of the better 2-knob electronics. That said if you only care about the acoustic sound there is probably not much difference.

1681 is a sweet guitar and I have owned a couple but I really prefer the sound and flexibility of the cutaway models.

I would buy the 1581 at GC for $1000. Complete new 2-knob electronics from the RI is about $300. For that price you would have your self one hell of a guitar for the money.

Jim,

The 1681 now resides in Florida.

i'm fairly handy at working on guitars, installing pickups, yada, yada, yada. if i got the 1581 from GC and decided to put the new 2 knobber system in, is that something i could do at home or should it be sent to the mommyship?
also, i read on a post here recently from someone who contacted the factory, that there really aren't any "new" 2 knob electronics, that the original has not been updated. true or not?

Hi Randy.

I had asked John Budny to give me a quote on installing the "new updated" two knobber from the Adamas reissues, and he told me that there is no difference between them and the originals (but he would do it if I insisted, for $150)

some canadian customs people are probably enjoying some fine kona brew and a few other goodies. they are probably also getting a good ovation education!

Randy.
I'm sure it's waiting at home for me right now, I'll definitely let you know when it arrives. Of course, some drug sniffing customs dog could have torn it apart. I've heard that drugs are sometimes smuggled in bundles of coffee, So I've heard.

Thanks again for passing on the Ovation history book with such style. I think you've started a tradition, I'll have to think of a regional delicacy to include with the book when I pass it on.

i like that idea, grif. let's just send this book on to parts as yet unknown and i won't concern myself on whether or not it makes it back to the big island. there are others here in hawaii, on other islands, who have probably not seen the book yet either.

Randy - I tried to stick a cheesesteak in with the book but apparently that's frowned upon

:D

by the time it got here, that cheesesteak would have made a decent bookmarker.
