Hello again all. The 87 C arrived yesterday and all I can say is WOW! I have owned many fine guitars in my life; among them were 15 Ovations including a pair of 1988 Elites that I played for nearly 15 years before selling them for something else. This Ovation 87 C is without a doubt the finest Ovation and one of the finest guitars period I have ever owned. I have not been able to put it down yet (well, actually I didn't sleep with it…my wife does have some rules lol). I can't get over the condition: other than a few very small finish cracks around the bridge, it is out of the box new! Fantastic! I don't think these are anything that will get worse but if so I’ll send it back to the mother ship for their expert repair/touch up. This is a guitar that is worth whatever it takes to keep it as nice as possible! I feel humbled to be able to have it! Please feel free to view the photos in my Galleries: Check out the rarity of this guitar: the label, finish and no “1987” on the abalone blank where it would normally be. The guitar positively sings! Awesome balance and sustain for days! Drool, Drool, Drool! (Sorry, just a little excited). The case is near mint as well: together with the guitar they must have been hiding under a bed in a temp controlled house or vault. It is that nice! Look at the mirror reflections in the picture! This one is a keeper! What an Ovation! What a Guitar! Thanks to God for the privilege to use this for a while in my life! My kid’s can fight for it when I’m gone (just joking…he he). Also see my post on the T-Bolt Snakeskin I also got in yesterday. But guess which one I have been playing? Right! Thanks to the members who have sent notes and for the research I am able to do from previous postings. What a great club!

Just an update; I played the 87C this past weekend for a concert and got great reviews and comments from the crowd. I didn't play any other guitar that evening: I really like it! Also the 89 T-Bolt TS-01 is on its way to New Hartford for a spa treatment! Sigh, I think I need one myself. Also I am the proud new owner of the 1990 1758 Hudley had for sale! It should be on the way by next week. This peplaced the White 1758 I played on the road for years and sold in 1997. I had no idea it was so rare. :-( I got it as an Ovation Keyman Endorsee in 1988. I still have my 1988 Ovation World Tour Jacket though: I'll take a picture and post it in my gallery. Well, hope all have a great weekend and be on the lookout for the GAS attack that is running rampent at this time! (IMHO)

Looks like you need a 1537 just for the sake of comparison.

Can't make it. A trip to Spain, a deposit on the OFC guitar, taxes, and there's nothing left for plane tickets.

I understand. I just made up my mind to go today and got registered and reservations. Should be a great time! I'm a little nervous about checking my guitar but the case along with a protective Guitar travel carry that I have should protect it (I Hope...)

That's close enough you could drive. We drive 240 miles to the next town, have lunch and turn around and come home. Why take an airplane?

I'm a minister and live in SW Virginia. Its a 12 hr. drive and I can only take three days - Thurs. to Sat.; I have to be back in the pulpit on Sunday morning. Also, with gas at $2.80+ per gal. it would cost me nearly what I got my flight for on Travolocity and, at 54, I won't be worn out from the drive to and from. Works for Me! :-)
Blessings!

My Bride and I went and saw "Wild Hawgs" last night.

Road Trip sounds good!

Mike (MusicMishka), 54 is not old. (I'm 54 and I'm trying to convince myself of that.) I just prefer driving to flying. I understand the time constraints. It would be a full 4 day trip for me, with Thursday and Sunday devoted just to flying. I hope I have the time next year.
Check for a thread from about a year ago on carrying guitars on a plane. With most larger planes, you can do it and carry them in the overhead. It just requires some planning. I would detune the guitar and put some foam around the headstock and neck and above the bridge so that it didn't bounce around in the case, especially if they make you check it.
Other Mike. We thought Wild Hawgs was great. I wasn't expecting much, but thought it was a corny, funny movie. Just stupid enough without being too stupid.

You're just full of excuses, aren't you? Get your priorities straight! ;)

Wabbit's right, Mark. You've been around this place waaay too long not to come out to play at least once. We'll accept not this year but tell us sometime anyway...

I know. Work is interfering with my golf game, too. But if I retire I couldn't afford to go, either, much less keep paying my kid's tuition. I'll keep saying, "just a few more years" until I have a heart attack.
I thought that the next generation would come along and support my retirement like we did our predecessor generation, but that isn't working out either. I'm the only one in the office today except for our computer geek.

My golf game suffers too, Mark. Went and hit a bucket this morning and the only thing in mid-season form is my slice.

We went to look at a house on the golf course. That was as close as I got to golf. I liked the house--just far enough off the 13th tee that it wouldn't get hit by a slice and had a 5 car garage. I liked it, but my wife didn't like the kitchen and woodwork. "What kitchen? It has a 5 car garage and is on the golf course." Women have their priorities screwed up.

Mark,
I agree with you: 54 is not that old. My mind knows that, my wife tells me that all the time (we met in Belarus (former USSSR) 10 yrs ago, we were married 5 years ago; we have two children: 4 and 3 months...she is giving me the trip to New Hartford as a gift for finally finishing Seminary after 11 years). So, while my mind knows that and my kids prove that I still have some youth left, my body is at war and constantly tries to prove my mind wrong! Guess which wins most often? :-)
Golf and Guitars are my passions; I have been blessed with a great wife and two beautiful children; I am doing what I was put here to do...so life is good.
P.S. Now if I can just get that GAS under control...which I understand is not age specific! lol
