I have an assoicate at work who has finally decided to start playing the acoustic guitar. I talked her into getting something better than a WalMart special. I took my Legend LX up for her to try and she loved it. Now I'm on the lookout for a used guitar that she could buy as a learner.

I think that she has around $300 to spend for a decent learner. I'll keep my eye out. If anyone has anything in good shape, please let me know. If it comes down to it, she may just get a Celeb.

You're doing her a BIG favor as it is just by keeping her away from the WalMart stuff.

Nothing has panned out so far. She is only wanting to spend around $200-250. I don't know if I can get a USA model in decent shape for that much. Even the old Balladeer and Legends are going for >$300.

How about this one? Ebay link - broken Elite T
This is an Elite T that has a soundboard crack. I put a $50 bid on it, but it didn't reach the reserve. Can any of you luthiers (or wanna-be's) give me any idea on the stability of that crack? How much to fill it? I imagine that it would be a great sounding guitar if you could stabilize it.

Thanks. Tom

Glufcoast, I have been trying to respond, but your PM box is full. Thanks, but I think her max is $250. Good luck with your sale.

Tom,
It would depend on the condition of the bracing. I have had a 12 string (1866) with a crack in the top repaired and it worked out fine. The guy that did it pulled it together and glued 3 patches on the underside. If it is only a crack in the top it should work out ok.
The picture does not look like the top has pulled apart yet.
Just a suggestion, why not shop around in your area for a Celeb? She could probably find a nice used one for the money she has to spend. Although it would not compare to your LX, it would get her in the Ovaiton camp and she might want to move up to a USA model later.
You would be able to try it out and find one that sould good.

tten,

I have a 1711 Balladeer w/OHSC I will sell to you for $300.00 plus shipping (whatever exact shipping cost is...I have shipping materials that will cost you nothing). I was going to sell it a while back w/o a case (I have since found a case for it), but had no bites so changed my mind. She's a good guitar...does not have the bass of a Legend, but she is very even, and plays beautifully. Let me know, as I am eye-balling a new Native American Flute, so you caught me at a good time.

I was hoping you'd turn up, Norse. This was a great guitar that I was trying to talk a friend into buying for Christmas, but he wouldn't go over $200. I looked at a bunch of guitars for my friend and this was the best deal out there, I thought. ttenn, talk her up $50 and she'll never regret it.

Norse,

Thanks, I'll try to get her up, but don't know if I can. I won't see her until this weekend, so it may be early next week when I can get back to you.
