Location: New York | Hello all,
I've been reading the board with interest and decided to stop being a "lurker" and register/post.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the best place to look to figure out the value of a particular Ovation. I'm not "actively" looking to sell - I'm actually doing a home inventory for insurance purposes and realize that I have no idea of the value of my instruments. I have a 1755 Balladeer 12 String that I bought back in the 80's and a 1717 Legend (not the new one but the one with the OP24 Preamp) that I think I bought in the 80's too.
Would appreciate anyone's advice on where to begin the search.
Many thanks!

I would suggest some time investigating Ebay for instruments the same or similiar to yours to gain insight as to "current values".
Someone here may have a ball park figure for you though.

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Hello Hedwig and welcome! The current market value for Ovations is not necessarily the insurance value; when arriving at an insurance value, you need to take into account the original retail price (if you know it), and the current replacement value of a similar model from Ovation (even though they will not probably be the exact same guitar. Also searching the vault for articles on your particular model number Ovation will help a lot as prices are very often discussed. Best wishes and again, welcome to the forum! |

Location: New York | Thanks MusicMike! That's a great suggestion about the Vault and I will definitely do that. I may actually have the original retail price info somewhere in the pile 'o paper that calls itself a file cabinet so I will start hunting for that as well. Thanks again for the advice.

Where in New York are you? Come to the tour. Don't let another year go by. I just missed going to the tour when I found this place. |

Location: New York | Thanks Phil - I'm close enough to CT! The tour sounds great. Now I just need to try to change something for work so I can go! |
