I'm trying to find info on the 1655. It doesn't show up in the Ovation Archives. The guitar in question is from 1985 and is being described as a Custom Balladeer. Hows the Sound? tone? anything else??? Thanks all.

I'm almost positive that's a Korean-made model for the European market. Some of them seem to have found their way over here. Never seen one in person, and not sure if it's a solid top or lam.

G8r,
Thanks for the info. The guy ended up sending pictures and I was able to enlarge the Sound hole/Label pic. Fixed the brightness and contrast and the label says nothing about "Made in New Hartford, Ct" I'm not buying any "O" not made here!!!!

The 1655 was a short lived USA made A/E 12 string which replaced the older model, 1615. The big change was the 14 fret neck with a Kaman bar and standard headstock, replacing the slot-head 12 fret neck. In '85 Ovation introduced the 1755 which had the FET pre-amp with 3 band EQ. The 1655 has volume only, like the 1612 6 string. The "Custom" part of the model designation really just means nicer fretboard markers which are diamond shape mother-of-pearl like on a Legend. I have a 1755 which has a very nice sound. I assume that the 1655 would sound the same. The bacing pattern on the Ovation Legend and Balladeer 12 strings back then was the same. The real difference in sound is the 12 fret slot-head vs. the 14 fret neck. Most here, myself included, like the 12 fret slot-head acoustic sound better. Plugged in though, any of the models with EQ controls will sound better.

Maybe so, Mike, but I'm pretty sure I saw a Balladeer with a Made in Korea label, once.

Model number 4861 is the old korean made balladeer. Not sure what model number the new ones will have.

The collective knowledge (I hesitate to say wisdom) on this board never ceases to amaze me. Thanks Dave.
