The most interesting on this guitar is the wide neck.
It's not really an Adamas but a very nice guitar for sure!! ;)

Looks a lot like the 1768-7 LTD custom job in 1995...note "outies" rather the "innies" as on the LTD. As to carved, probably meant to say the carved bridge as on the LTD. Obviously, not an Adamas. Could be an Adamas neck, at least Adamas inlaids.

Might be a good way to get a wider neck, upgraded or at least newer than the LTD.

This is the same dude selling the 9 string O. Look at his other auctions, it looks as if he is parting out a couple of boats that had guitars on them....

If this had the Adamas I headstock and bridge I'd be all over it.

It's in CT. I'd be willing to bet even money that somebody from the factory built it or had it built for themself.....

I asked the seller about his description and cautioned him that his description is misleading.

His response was:

Thanks For the Info - I believe I was very careful with the description. I indicated that I had it custom ordered in 95 with the following features - Sitka top with age-ing toner (I did not like the graphite - sounded aweful), Wide 1-7/8 inch neck, OP-X Electronics, Pearl inlays -Etc. Of course the serial number ends with a -x which I believe means it was a custom order. When I was all finished with my selection of changes it cost me a bizillion dollars. Thanks Bob

If it were me, and I was paying Adamas money for a custom guitar with "age-ing" toner on the top, I would want an Adamas label inside the bowl instead of the Ovation label with a model number that clearly isn't an Adamas model number. I should have asked him how many zeros are in a bizillion.

Oh well. I tried to warn him.

I've seen one(1) custom legend that was made/custom built at the factory with an Adamas I neck/headstock... and according to the seller when he asked the factory to make it they originally told him no...until he threatened to send all of his Ovation stock in the store back...(he was a licensed O dealer) the factory acquiesced and built it... stating they would not do it again...

the guitar was sold on e-bay a year or two ago...

wonder if that's changed with the "Custom Shop"?

The photos don't really show a lot of light on the finish... It might be similar to the Nutmeg finish they had at one time. Age-ing toner is just a stain made for the spruce, and they have to use a pre-stain first or the toner will blotch the finish. Pre-stain might be better than schellac if it allows the wood to breathe and resonant. What's the big difference between a 5-piece A' neck and a 5-piece O' neck anyway?, basically the same isn't it?...

Dave, I don't necessarily doubt that this was a custom order guitar. I am not disputing that. At first glance, it appears to be a 1768-LTD but with a hand-carved walnut bridge and an Adamas neck and headstock--no abalone up the edges of the fretboard and around the headstock.

Where I personally have a problem with his description is that he says it's an Adamas. In my opinion, this is not an Adamas. He tells me he didn't like the sound of the carbon top--that's fine. I don't have a problem with that. I'm not making a case that this guitar should be any less special to him or anyone else.

I realize that a person making a custom order may have some option of how the tag reads inside the bowl. This one says "1768-X" on an Ovation sticker, not an "Adamas by Ovation" sticker.

Indulge me for a moment here, but it's like the 1989 Pontiac Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car. GM and the Pontiac factory wanted to make something special, so they decided to take an engine no longer in use by Buick (the intercooled 3.8 liter SFI turbo which Buick engineers developed) and put the engine into the Pontiac, still a division of GM. Does this make this Pontiac Trans Am a Buick? In my opinion, no.

If I'm wrong about the Ovation/Adamas argument here then tell me and explain to me why I am.

Thanks.

Weather you call this an Adamas with a wooden top or an Ovation with an Adamas neck is a toss up. I had a similar guitar, but mine was a 12-string. Elite body with Adamas neck.

No matter what you call it, in the end they sell for Elite $$$ not Adamas $$$.

My take is that it's an elite, doesn't matter what the headstock says. I need one of these with the big neck. We'll see how it goes.

My apologies if the point of my original post wasn't understood. But you both just agreed with the point I was trying to make. Elite w/ Adamas neck.
