Location: Chicago | I recently asked a dumb question about the #47 RI. What is the situation with the Adamas 1687? Were there more made of this originally or for as 30th anniversary RI? I don't recall a 1687 coming up on this site or ebay...
I'm also interested to know the logic behind the decision to re-issue Adamas models. Kaman's special #47 I understand, but the others? Popular demand? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I have one of the Adamas brochures at home. As I recall, they released those guitars as well as the U681t in intervals to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Adamas. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | There were lots (thousands) of 1687's originally made. The 30th anniversary re-issue is REALLY nice. Last I knew Al had one or two of them for sale. You might want to contact him. As I recall the prices were pretty good. Dave |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | As Dave has pointed out numerous times, the biggest difference between the Adamas 1 and 2 is the headstock and the price. I think they sound essentially the same. I have heard some Adamas II's that literally blew me away while the same version of the 1 was just so-so....and of course vice-versa. |

Location: SoCal | I agree that the difference is primarily cosmetic...similar to the difference between a Custom Legend and the 1157 Anniversary (currently posted for sale), the Patriot, or the Lennon Legend Ltd as they are deep bowl, A brace, and AAA spruce.
It is up to the buyer whether they want to pay the extra for bling/carving. |

Location: CT | One thing not cosmetic is the neck. 5-piece maple/mahogany on the II vs. walnut on the I.
Maybe this is a dumb question... Do they not make the Adamas I anymore? I would guess not since they wouldn't re-issue a guitar still in production, but If they stopped making them I wasn't aware. |

as to the 12's, neck on my 1688 differs substantially from the 1685 - about half way between the 1685 and a Martin neck. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | They never really stopped making the textured topped adamas guitars. It's just that at some point they stopped offering them as regular production guitars in favor of the smooth topped Adamas models (lord knows why).
The idea of the re-issue Adamas I and II I think was more or less marketing to create some buzz around something that already existed, and to channel demand for the textured topped guitars into a few specific configutrations. The 47 reissue was of course something entirely different and unique. Now it looks like they are trying to capitalize on what a few visionary dealers (ie Alpep) had been doing, and call it an "Adamas Custom Shop". A good thing for sure, but again nothing more than marketing spew for something that already existed.
