I am looking at purchasing the Elite 6778 A/E guitar. Can anyone give me a review on this guitar. I currently have a 1112 Balladeer.

Welcome wgc. Let us know what year 6778 are you looking at ... they varied a bit over time. Ovation went to an LX series guitar a few years back. But in all ways, a much different animal than your 1112 in terms of bowl (med vs. deep), top style (multi vs center), and electronics (OP vs nada). What kind of music do you play?

Glad to see you around. What year is your 1112?

For one thing, the Elite Standard is a cutaway and may have newer electronics. I think early ones had an FET-3 preamp, which is okay but not as good as an OP-24. I don't think I've seen the latter on one of these; if memory serves me well, it went from FET-3 to OP-24+, and then the OP-24E.

The Elite Standards, pre LX, were good guitars and can be found for good prices now. If you're looking at paying over $400, I'd hold out for an LX or an Elite.

Wis, I have a 6778LX that I like a lot. There's not much to say really. It's a cutaway mid bowl Ovation, single sided epaulets on the Vintage Natural finish, OpPro preamp.

The neck has a slight V to it, not too thin from front to back, feels similar to an electric guitar rather than a chunky acoustic neck. Nice quality wood on the top, with typical Ovation workmanship.

How it compares to your Balladeer I can't say.

Would I buy it again? Actually, no. I'd buy the 2778LX which is the same guitar with the new contour bowl, or I'd buy the 2007 Collector guitar, which is the contour bowl, VIP preamp, and some bling. But, that is not because I am in any way unhappy with my 6778, it is that the others are even more of a good thing. THe contour bowl is something you might or might not like. It feels more like a regular wood box shaped guitar. If you're skinny, it might feel a bit odd especially when standing. The sound is louder and a bit fuller like regular deep bowl Ovations.

If you're getting a great deal on a used 6778LX, I'd go for it. If you're looking new, I'd look at the 2778LX or the 2007 Collectors Edition as a possible alternate for a similar price. In fact, the 2778LX is on sale and you can get it for the same price as a new 6778LX. Call Al at Lost Art Vintage.

I was looking at an 6778 LX Elite, priced at 799.00. My Balladeer is a 1972 version.

Thank you all for your input.
