I played Bob's (BT717) new one and fell in love. I have been playing my Martin for 4 years but it is off being repaired and my heart wondered. I pulled the trigger on this one on e-bay. Over all it is a beauty. I little disappointed in the fact it was not "mint" as described. Grrr e-bay. Guitar has some medium sized scratches on the top coat below the sound hole. Lot's of picking. I am hoping they can be polished out. The action was high so I took out the only shim under the saddle and it seemed to get higher. Is that possible? I think it needs a good set-up but not by me. Any thoughts for the newest fan? Also is there a way to ban myself from the "For Sale" section? My wife told me if I buy one more guitar she is leaving me so I am hoping if I buy two she will stay gone.

I started a thread awhile back on the action of the 30th and concluded that to get really low action (with no shims) you need to do some sanding on the front of the saddle under the high E string. The bridges were made so that you could use them for right or left handed guitars, so they don't taper down under the high strings like they used to. Since you are in Connecticut, you need to contact John Budney or Kim Keller at the factory and have them get it set up how you want it. If you're a strummer and don't mind the medium to high action, just leave it alone. Played mine last night. It just has a great, classic Ovation sound.

Nearly nobody joined this place and could resist of G.A.S. If you decide to keep your wife, stay away from the posts of Mauvais Beal, Tupperware (name will change in the next weeks, or days, be careful!), alpep... Their posts could be very dangerous! See my signature. When I joined here, I had half the amount of guitars. And it's still growing. Other than that, this a nice place to hang out here. Kurt

If the assembly is sloppy in the slot, this can happen to some degree. Look from the side to see if the saddle assembly edges are equally seated or lower toward the sound hole. Otherwise, you may have removed a tapered shim that was used to bias the action for lower action on the treble side. Many reasons for this but the important thing is discovering that this is in fact the case. Professional set-up by a qualified repair shop/guy is essential. I highly recommend that you take it to Ovation as recommended above. Your guitar is one of the best looking singlehole models and has lots of potential. Good luck with it.

I can give you a whole list of what doesn't work, but you probably should experience it on your own. 15 more Ovations since I found this board and my wife is still with me. She refused to write the check for the last one, but she did hand me the checkbook.

Maybe I will put an empty stand in the living room. Or maybe not. No I see a professional set-up in the near future as I know, (having played Bob's) that it is not at it's full potential. When I first purchased my Martin I gave it a set-up and almost ruined it. The tech made me swear I would never set-up another guitar the rest of my life. So I know the benifit of a professional set-up. Have a great weekend guys, and thanks for the advice. Oh BTW, I think this Ovation gas far exceeds any Martin gas I have had in the past. Honey, I am home.... Top

I'm in the "fine tuning" process with my 30th Commemorative CL and struggling with thoughts of selling/trading or not. One thing has never changed. I think that my guitar is the best sounding and easiest to play guitar I have ever encountered - plugged in. Acoustically, I'd rather play one of my Martins. That may all change for the better with a few more tweaks though. Hope so. Sorry to hear about your experience with eBay. I have another post in General Posting that you may want to contribute to. It's sometimes theraputic to vent. Also, other members can learn from our less than favorable experiences. Best of luck to you. As you bring your CL up to speed, we can stay in touch (PM) as I'm doing the same. -E.
