It is a prototype based on the 1547 model, will all the same features EXCEPT: 1. Super Shallow Bowl 2. OP-24 preamp The standard 1547 was a deep bowl with the two-knob electronics...basically a cutaway version of the vaunted 1537 model. This guitar was made on November 2, 1984, and as best I have been able to put together, was one of the first SSB Elite guitars ever put together. This guitar has an incredible sound, very similar to that of the 1537 IMO, just less of it due to the bowl depth. It is way warmer and richer than any other SSB I've ever played (and I've had several). I figure a lot has to do with the early construction and materials of the 1537/1547 line, along with the wood body binding and very rich honey-colord aged tops. I just recently got this back from the factory, where it had several things done: 1. Surface crack reset and sealed 2. Top leveled & bracing checked 3. New bridge 4. New frets 5. Neck/action reset & adjusted 6. Soundboard completely refinished 7. Upgraded electronics from "proto" model OP24 to actual OP-24 unit 8. Dunlop Straplocks installed Here's how she looks now... Check out the reflection in this shot... As I mentioned, it does have a top crack from bridge to bottom that has been professionally repaired and refinished by Budny and Co in CT. They actually ended up removing the bridge and epi's, leveling out the soundboard, completely refinishing the entire surface and then adding a new bridge and epi's. You can run your finger over the entire top and not find a single dimple or evidence of cracking anywhere. As usual, they did a phenomenal job at Ovation Service. Frets are brand-new, electronics are perfect, and overall condition of the guitar is excellent. There are a few small finish checks on the back of the neck and headstock (very minor), and one little 1/4" ding on the very top, right on the ridge of the headstock itself. The case is in decent shape, say 7/10. It has a little bubbling on the top (by the Ovation logo), and one section along the bottom edge that has some cracking that has been taped, but it opens and closes fine and is structurally in good shape. The inside likewise is very nice, no issues or problems at all. All in all, this guitar is in fabulous condition, and plays as well as you could possibly hope for. Thanks again to the mothership, it has been restored to the glory it deserves, and would be a great guitar either for a collector or an active gigging musician. I'm hoping to keep this here in the OFC, as it truly deserves to be appreciated...and that would definitely be here more than any other place. I'm asking $1500 shipped in the US, international shipping available as well. I'm also open to interesting trades...PM me or email if you're interested or would like more pics/information.

Beal's sounded fantastic, not at all thin like most shallow bowls. This one offered by Andrew looks just as nice, and if it sounds as nice as the 94C proto, would be a good get for someone.

Isn't it amazing what the guys in the repair shop can do with the tops of the guitars? I had a 68 Deluxe Balladeer that had a repaired crack in the top when it went back to the mothership. It came back and while you could see the crack, you couldn't feel it at all. It was just magnificent. Karl, in Germany has that guitar now, and from the pics he's posted, he's pretty pleased with it as well.....

The original preamp looked exactly like the regular OP-24, except on the knob instead of the "OP-24" marking it was silver with the old-style Ovation logo. I didn't even know that they were going to switch it out...evidently it had enough problems that they opted to put in a new unit. Can't really complain about that! Oh, emails and PM's sent...thanks for the quick replies!
