Anyway... Am I the only one who does not appreciate Humbuckers?
I sold my phony SG to my buddy cuz I don't seem to be able to get the sound I like outta Humbuckers.
I do have a Washburn S/S/H which is fine, and an S/S/S Pseudo-Strat which I have no problem with. Both of them sound fine, and the five-way switch gives me lots of options...
[But I still have the Delta King with Double Hummers, which is why I ask this]
So... Am I doing something wrong. Or is this just a personal preference issue?
And if someone has any pointers, I am open to suggestions.
This kinda prevents me from getting a Preacher... |

| I agree - not to mention matching the guitar with the right amp.
I would say I prefer hums, but there are times when I have to grab a strat (ok, maybe a fat strat). Between the numerous manufacturers, their various models, wiring options, pots, switches, etc and 'wah-la' blues / jazz / classic rock / metal / ???
My nephew loved his bolt on Epi Les Pauls I gave him years ago until I moved him into a few different strats. Now he's into PRS (entry level - the SE series is pretty darn good) and looking towards Gibson (seems like I can't resist offering him a trade in program to reinforce his achievements or for bdays and holidays - reminds me I need to clear out the old).
Find a good local shop, grab a few until one feels right, find the right amp, then play, play play!!
Since this is the for sale section, I'll make it official by offering two Epiphone Pauls with bolt on necks - one black @ 100 and one cherry burst flame maple @ 150. |

Location: Utah | OMA, get the Preacher! Or a Breadwinner. There's nothing wrong with humbuckers, but there is a lot of variability in sound. Cheap pickups can sound pretty crappy.
Just visit the Dimarzio or Seymour-duncan websites and see what they offer. They have humbuckers that sound like vintage Strats, they have pickups that sound like vintage Les Pauls, they have active pickups for screaming metal, warm pickups, middy pickups, lead pickups, rhythm pickups, etc.
My daughter's Preacher sounds great, and really has a lot of variety of sounds. In fact, you can split the coils on both pickups to have a true single coil if you want it. You'll hear it on the soon-to-be-platinum OFC CD. |
