Oddball sez...
"However, I'm not sure I could completely trust a guy who strings a guitar this way. Or one who does not proofread his own auction before posting it. (no 'satin' neck', no 'sunburst headstock', etc.)"

That's a lot for one having a big crack. Oh boy ... did I just open a can of worms?

It\'s cheaper than it was....

Someone told him that 1537's were valuable... But neglected to mention that the condition matters.

See, I'm stupid. I list my guitars for what they are worth, so some other noobie can afford it.
If it only cost 35 cents to list a BIN and if you have patience (and don't need the money) you can ask any stupid price you want...
And maybe some stupid person will pay for it. (Then convince themselves that it's an antique!)

Why would you buy from somebody when over 10% of their customers are dissatisfied with them?

Well, this went to one of our own. I was very tempted to bid, but, being out of the USA, needed permission that wasn't forthcoming. When the auction closed, and I saw the bidder's name, at least I had the satisfaction of knowing that it was going to a good home. And there is a sort of poetic justice here: I bought a 1758 last year in an auction where he was the next highest bidder, so this evens things out. Well done! I am sure this is JUST as good or even better! :)

You mean this one?

1537 like object on Ebay

I figured it should at least be playable for a while. Then if it goes to Mother for a makeover it will still cost less than a new guitar.

Nice grab. A lot of us were looking at that one but he who bids best wins.

Looks like a good deal Woody. The poor thing may actually sound good.

(just don't look at the cracks while you are playing)

I too considered bidding then sending it to the mothership for a new top and makeover. You definitely have a winner at that price. Congratulations!

Bottom Feeders 1537-4 Album

Pictures are up! I received it today and promptly took it apart.

It is partly reassembled, cleaned and has a damp rag in the bowl now.

There is a hole where the bass should be but no wonder.
A couple of days of Worshington Sunshine should humidify it some. Then its either Spruce or Carbon Fiber cleats for the gap.

If it goes to Mother it will likely be retopped. I'd consider a 1537 bracing only with inlaid epaulets. Then it would make the neck look old so why not ask for a "D" scale setup!

So I'll just play it for now.

Looks great as it is! Sometimes the cracks add to the mojo. If it plays well, please don't have it re-topped!

Mike, I'm not sure I understand the logic of sending a guitar back to Mother for a new top and neck. Other than the preamp and tuners, you're going to get a new guitar back.
Why not keep this one and custom order what you want?

Mike.. I looked at yout album pics on this one.. What's all that green gunk inside the body? looks as thought neck ext. was glued down at one point.

Did someone also repair the peghead ear?
Is it me.. or does the top grain spacing seems wider than others? or is it just a more pronounced grain?

Is that double stick tape on the rear cover opening?

Satin peghead?

I wanted to bid on this one for a "beater" guitar that I wouldn't be afraid of the kids messing with. Nice grab..! Tal

I think the green was the remnant of crystalized adhesive and mildew. The Peghead was repaired cleanly with the exception of woods that matched exactly but when do they ever match.

The inner ring of the Hatch is 3M'd back in place and the overall finish is Satin, which is better than "Sat in".

It'll git er done!
