My 14 year old grandson just mentioned that he wants a decent guitar for Christmas. He wants something a little "fancier" (referring to my 1537 and Adamas).

I am thinking a used Elite might be just the ticket for him.

Might or might not be possible to do as our budget would be in the $300-400 range.

Maybe one of the off-shore O's, but I would need advice on that. He also say a pic of an Elite T (flamed variety?) and thought that was pretty cool.

So, advice and referrals welcome over the next couple of weeks.

You could get him one of the new iDea's. I'm sure a 14 year old would have great fun recording himself and playing along to the backing tracks and lessons.

Deffintely Think a "T" would be "cooler" for a 14 yr old then a Regular Elite

Excellent suggestion! It looks like a great platform for experimentation for the 'tronics generation.

Get with Al and see what ya can work out.

Hadn't thought of the IDea....will have to go back and read the posts. However, I am thinking they are way out of my price point.

My problem is I have 5 grandkids from "mixed families", so have to treat them equal. In this case, several of us would combine our Christmas present $$$$ to make the purchase.

So Al, how much is an IDea?

How about the 1657 on ebay for $375? I don't know if that qualifies as fancy with a 14 year old, but it does for me.

I'd personally tell him to go stuff, and then help him find a job so he can buy his own guitar, but that may not be the popular line of thought here....

If you had to be popular to be in the OFC, a bunch of us wouldn't be here.
I don't have grandkids, so I can't comment, but I have been extravagant with my kids with guitars and cars in ways I never would have imagined. On the other hand, they've earned scholarships worth several times the cost of all the guitars and cars, so I can afford it now and I never planned on that.

The other grandkids are unlikely to play guitar, so they'll have no idea (or iDea?) how much you spent on this one.

Iffy,

Checked out the Ultra but it was $359 or something like that. Looks like just the ticket for the price you mentioned.

I may be on hold for a while, since my sale of the 2080 fell through and I was funding this with that sale.

Moody....obviously you don't have a "protective grandmother type" sleeping with you who would rip your tonsils out from your back side if you talked to one of her grandbabies that way.

Besides, kid has maintained a 4.0 GPA in accelerated classes for last 5 years, is successful in sports and worked all summer to build up money to buy his own car in a couple of years. You occassionally reward that behavior.

Takes after his grandpa.....(well except for the 4.0 GPA, accelerated classes and successful in sports)....hmmmmm maybe I don't want him to have a good guitar. :D

Yepper, the price went up a bit today. I bet yesterday's response prompted the increa$e. Those that got one for <$310 got a steal. I came real close to pulling the trigger on the SB yesterday. Didn't... oh well...

Good luck in your quest!

I just bought one last night/this morning...
The price had gone up to $359, but I had one in my 'cart' at the old price, so I still got it.
Since 12 hours ago, it has now gone up to $399
So I musta just slid under the wire.
Glad I didn't think too much longer.

[If you still want one at $310, maybe you could email or call them and still get that deal...
45 day price guarantee and all that?]

I snagged one last night for the $309.75. No sales tax and free shipping to boot. Got the sunburst. Not sure what I'm going to do with it but it seemed too good a deal to pass up, especially with Christmas right around the corner. MF did have a one day only sale so I imagine this deal was part of that promotion.

For anybody that missed-out on the Stonebobbo 2171 Ultra-Deal...

Music 123 has the same deal, at least it does right now!

This is listed as Close-Out, so if you still want one, now is the time to get it.
I guess these are kinda like the 4861 Korean Balladeer that I had.
A Korean 2771LX? I'll let y'all know when I get mine.

They also have a Blemished 2171-4 for $695.99...
Go figger
