Location: Greencastle, IN | I am turning to the experts for advise because you guys/gals never let me down. I found an Elite with the natural finish model 1735 that I am considering trading my 80's Custom Legend for. I have a 3 inch check mark and some fret wear on the Legend. It is black. The 1735 is very clean and the action on the neck is about as good as it gets. It doesn't roar like the Legend but still sounds great. What's an Elite 1735 going for. I have to trade as I don't want to pull out the wallet (grin). I think I can do an even trade. Thanks! |

Location: Vernon CT | It looks like the guitar went for $1095 back in 1985. The info I looked at on the Web says its a Legend Elite?? I thought a Legend was the round Sound hole and the Elite is the Multi sound hole. Confusing
Maybe one of the other members can clear that up. It's really your choice and what you like. IF you like it better then your Custom Legend , then go for it, AGAIN, It's what you like. |

Sounds collectible.. No. The guitar you're thinking about was the prototype for the 1537 which was, if memory serves, the Wood Topped Super Legend?
Regardless, it wasn't the Legend Elite. I've looked thru my catalogs and can't find mention of the 1735. Hobie Dave, can you post a picture of it? |

Location: Greencastle, IN | Opps! My guitar is an 80's Custom Legend with carved bridge and all the inlay and jazz not an Elite Legend. Wouldn't that we sweet. I've been at this computer to many days arranging music. Even though it is 15 degrees outside I think I need to go for a motorcyle ride. That will clear up my head. YIKES! I am looking at trading for an Elite Standard. Sorry about the confusion. |

Location: SoCal | Just to clarify, I found the 1735 Legend Elite in a 1985 catalog. Looks like it's supposed to be a less expensive 1537 Elite (this was the last mention of the 1537 in Ovation catalogs as production had actually stopped in 1984 and the regular Elite models debuted in 1985).
It's a deep bowl, mono chrome epaulet guitar, w/ OP 24, rosewood fingerboard, regular binding, and chrome tuners.
Very similar to the Elite Standard from 1994..... |

You might think about selling the CL on eBay (or maybe PM me) ... they seem to be holding their value and you have the bonus of having a "Paul Simon" guitar. Just me two cents. |
