It ends today and is REALLY low priced:

My wife refuses to let rescue it. Hopefully someone here can. I promised no new guitars for a while. **lowers his head and pouts**

That's the one I was looking at. I got in big trouble last year for buying an 83 Collector's. I had made a similar promise, but I fixed the 83 up and gave it to my daughter for her 25th birthday. That sort of got me out of the doghouse for a short while. I gave $375 for that one and thought I stole it. It was in much better shape than this one, but this one looks like the saddle is sitting pretty high, so it might just need to have the shims removed. It also looks like the bridge is damaged where the strings pass through. I think I'll pass. I'll get in just as much trouble spending more money on something I want, but this might be a fixer where someone could make some money. There were more 83 Collectors made than any other, so there are lots of them out there. I think this was when they introduced the super shallow bowl.

I may be back in the doghouse in an hour. I may have to get my daughter to say she bought it for her boyfriend. She'll get in worse trouble, but she's further away from SWMBO.

Dang. Went cheap for $138.50. Even had my daughter and her boyfriend in on the story.

No. I was surprised that the guy who outbid me just before it ended, only did it by $2.50, but somebody sniped me and the dang computer locked up so I couldn't increase the bid.

I didn't say that very well. I got outbid once, but only by $2.50. I had about a $10 cushion until the last second, so someone must have had a higher bid on their snipe program. I was trying to increase mine to give me a bigger cushion, but the computer wouldn't take me back to the right page. Still not very clear, but I'm not very savvy about this stuff.

Understand that just cuz you got beat by $2.50, that doesn't mean the other guy didn't bid $300.
The automatic bid increase-thingie just raises the bid enough to beat you.

With 11 years on eBay, I've learned when it comes to last minute bidding on something you really want, Go Big or stay Home...usually works...

If that is a real sale, then it is one of the best deals I've seen in a long time, and one which I wouldn't have hesitated to jump on had I been watching this more closely. As OMA says, however, the winning bidder might have had a much higher maximum, but lucky for him, he was by himself in the end.

Anyone want to bet the winner pulls a shim or two, adjusts the truss rod, polishes the guitar up a little, puts new strings on it, takes some lovely digital pics, writes a glowing description, and puts a BIN of $400 OBO in two weeks? (Not that I've ever done anything like that.) Heck! GC would probably give you a check for that much. (Not that I've ever done anything like that either.)

And no, it's not me. I didn't bid. GREAT price though.

That's exactly what I figured, Patch. I would have pulled a shim or two, adjusted the truss rod, polished the hell out of it and given it to my daughter's boyfriend for graduation, or kept it if they broke up by then. I'm well aware of what might have happened, OMA. I checked the bids afterward and it looks like the winner hadn't bid before and has a ton of transactions. The prior bidder was increasing his maximum bid by $2.50 each time. My daughter's boyfriend just told me he'd throw in another $20 when the computer locked up and I couldn't increase the bid. Even $155 would have been a great deal, if the sniper was at $150, but I've been trying to tell myself that you are right and he probably was at $300.

Yeah Patch... I sold a beater 1112 for $150, hoping that some beginner would get it.
The person who bought it promptly relisted it for $350!

But I watched it for three months and a dozen relists, and it never sold.
I think that I learned my lesson... But it still annoyed me.

I'm the guy that got the '83. I'm new to this club and just want everyone to know that this model Ovation is my favorite. I now have 3 of them. Been playing one for 25 yrs. I was suprised to get it so cheap;but the pickup is bad and the action, even with the shims out is still high. It is very clean and frets are O.K. Anybody out there have a pickup before I call Ovation? Thanks,Joe in Dallas.

Welcome jotele. I'm sure someone here can help you out. When it comes to parts, the OFC is infested with packrats!

I was the next high bidder. I bought one last year for my daughter's 25th birthday (obviously born in 1983) and really liked the way it played and sounded, although I'm not a shallow bowl fan. I spent close to $500 by the time it was ready to give her.
My other daughter's boyfriend liked it and we were bidding on this one for him. He'll just have to be satisfied with my Custom Balladeer that he borrowed for now.
Tell me you had a really high bid, just to make me feel better, because I was going to go to $156 when I couldn't get the computer to work.

Mark,I had bid 177.77 and ended up getting it. I already have 2 and really thought somebody would knock me off. It's going to need a new pickup(which I ordered from Kim today) and possibly a neck set,so it wasn't that great of deal.It is very clean though. I personally like this model over everything else. Only gripe would be the narrow neck(at the nut);but might try to have a new nut cut wider if I have a neck set.Have a great day,Joe in Dallas.
