s/n 001 of 150 Ovation’s 2009 Collectors’ series strikes a perfect balance between acoustic purity and electric performance. A hand-selected figured Koa top produces warm, full-bodied tones while its lightweight Contour body pumps out plenty of volume. Abalone appointments give the guitar a distinctive look, adorning its delicate Celtic knot rosette and fingerboard. An additional 200 pieces of abalone frame the top. Ovation’s OP Pro Studio preamp powers the electric side and features exclusive “expressor”/drive controls that accentuate each individual note when playing finger style or single note passages. Additional features include a deep contour GS body, Scalloped LX bracing, 5-piece mahogany/maple neck and ebony fingerboard.

Production will be limited to 150 sequentially numbered pieces worldwide. Retail: $3599 including deluxe molded case.

Okay, I like it better in person. I wasn't impressed with Ovation's standard pics, but wow that's purdy!

Someone should grab #1!

At NAMM, even with all of the noise, it was "sweet".

NICE!

Someone will enjoy this one. I would expect 001 would retain it's value a hell of a lot better than the rest of the run.

Hey Al, did you move to Florida or something?

Nice photography Al.

#1 should command a premium. I can't believe you got it. The "big dealers" can go shag themselves.

Beauty. I'm quite happy with my 08C, but if I didn't have it I'd give this one serious thought.

The looks got my attention when I saw one last saturday, it sure was purdy. Then I picked it up, man it was heavy not like any other Ovation I ever picked up.
Then I played it for a couple minutes, real sublte warm sound but it sure wasn't for me.

That is exquisite. Wow. Possibly the prettiest Ovation ever, IMHO.

Hope O doesn't make all their Collectors and/or special models with contour backs from now on. Seems to be the trend. I know it would go against the whole spirit of the thing, but it would be interesting for them to do a run of 150 'special edition' guitars like this, 50 with contour backs, 50 regular deep bowl and 50 Mediums (maybe 50 SSBs, too) and see which one sold best. They might be surprised. Personally, even if I was flush with cash (sorry, let me laugh until I weep) I would not get this model for the sole reason that I don't care for the contour back.

But maybe I would just because it is so gorgeous.

Funny I found the fact that there is not much sound loss in comparison to a deep bowl and the comfort of a contour bowl that keeps my deep bowl Adamii pointed in the right direction a wonderful inovation. I certainly will always look for this on my Ovation guitars from now on.
The Medium bowl aways seemed to be no where near as comfortable as a shallow bowl for stage work when your pluggd in all night and the mediums are no where near as good sounding as a deep bowl. The countour seems to solve a lot of problems.
For what little it is worth......... I do not understand the use of a Medium Bowl?
Beautiful Guitar Al, good luck with selling a few of these.

I prefer the middle ground. As I've said before, I didn't like it originally, but possibly with the addition to my contour, I no longer find it uncomfortable. I've gotten used to it and I don't even notice it anymore. The LAV Koa seems to have plenty of bass, but it is hard to judge the effect of the contour bowl when there are so many other differences in the guitar, like the Koa, 12 fret neck, oval soundhole in the upper bout.

The nice thing about the contour bowl is that the guitar won't slip off your knee.

Oh, shut up. It slips off just as much as any other guitar.

Yeah, I know the contour is here to stay. And I know most people seem to like it, or at least don't mind adapting to it. And I'm guessing that Ovation is gonna probably going to use the contour bowl on every 'special' run guitar from here on out.

It's kinda like automatic transmissions. Seems like 75% of cars have them. There are advantages to them. I can drive one. I can get used to one. I just don't like them as much as a manual.

No biggie. Life goes on.

that's the very beauty top ! . . . and the s/n 001 is more than 'cool'.

BTW, I like the deep bowl more than the contour bowl.
