Toby has a D-28VS, which is the same configuration as the CEO. Man, it's one helluva guitar. Overtones that ring forever. If I were looking for a box guitar, it'd be on my short list.....

HD-28VS. It's a little different back/side wood than the CEO but yes, one hell of a guitar.

D-18VS is probably closer in tone to your CEO than the 28 would be. The 18 is mahogany back/sides. Many people refer to sapele (your CEO) as "mahogany-like" in tone.

The 28 (Indian rosewood) is a bit brighter of a sound from top to bottom than the 18. It's also maybe a tad louder, but you're comparing cannon 1 to cannon 2 so what the hell's the difference.

I looked at a lot of 12 fret dreads before getting the 28 and maybe it was just my impression but they seemed to vary quite a lot from one guitar to the next. Much more so than other size/shape wooden guitars. I played a few that were very dead sounding, and some that were just amazing almost too overpowering. The 28 that I picked had a nice zing to it without being unmanageable. The sound jumps from the guitar but you still feel like tou have some reigns on it. It's definately one of my favorite guitars.

Interesting comment about "dead sounding". Before I bought the CEO I played several standard D-28's and D-35's. I was totally unimpressed with them. Dead sounding is an accurate description. I'm glad I listened to TJ's advice.

I owned a few rosewood Martins, and they didn't do a thing for me. Least of all was the OM 35. The mahog sounds much better to me. Glad you kept it Jack, you will be too.

Jack: I am consoled by the fact that I have aided to your marital bliss, at least somewhat. Euphoria of owning a Martin lasted about good 12 hours but a lot of other interesting things happened yesterday including a meeting with partners from KKR, the kings of leverage buyout. The book and film "Barbarians at the Gate" are about them. Remember my comments about "Greed"...In many ways I am no better since my greed is GAS and Porsche. Don't forget me when you want to sell the guitar again. Cheers, Simon

Simon,

I'm fortunate in that my wife gets upset with me for not doing enough for myself. And you are definitely #1 on the CEO sale list. Thanks again for your understanding.

Fortunately (for me), Stephen had Collins GAS and I got his 2007 HD-28VS.

A keeper.

Tony, not so much Collings Gas as I just can't fall in love with the Martin sound.
That HD-28VS you got from me was as close to Martin nirvana as it gets for me. It was a GREAT sounding guitar.
I still have the NB with your name stenciled on the case

Keith, don't hold your breath, that and the other two won't be leaving any time soon, if ever.
