I just finished a week of guitar at the Swannanoa Gathering About 300 people there 200 for guitar week and 100 for contemporary folk which means singer/songwriter. I took some of each of the classes. I would highly reccommend this next year for anyone interested.

The point of this post, There were many Martins and Taylors and lots of others, even some of those PLASTIC guitars, you know, Rainsong and CA. Lots of heavy tutt-butt doiley knitter vibe going on. I'd say the attendees were mostly middle age or better, maybe 15% under 30. One of these young guys was the only person at the whole gathering that had an Ovation. THE ONLY ONE!! I told him early in the week that I liked his guitar and he said he loved it too. I'll add every time I saw him he had it on a strap around his neck, not locked up in a Calton case on a hand truck. It's an LX shallow legend, noir(-5). And everytime I saw him he had it around his neck, in the cafeteria, at the shows at night, walking between classes. Today I had a chance to stop and talk to him and introduced myself and invited him to come join us here. He told me his name and being an old fart I immediately forgot it. Anyway I thought you all would enjoy the story and please welcome him when he shows up here.

Thanks Beal: for being an ambassador for guitars and music in general and Ovation in particular...I hope that he will join us here! I had to wait 33 years to meet you...it was worth it!

Bet it was quite the treat for him to meet you, Beal. I remember meeting some "names" when I was a wide-eyed kid and not every one was as cool as I'd imagined. My bet is he'll be here sooner than later.
