I'm trying to get some idea what it might be worth, please let me know if anyone is interested. It sounds and plays great. Thank you.

Secondly, you do have something special...an early Ovation shiny bowl is special and yours is no exception. The economy is keeping guitar prices in general and Ovation prices in specific down. If you have any pic's since the restoration, I hope you will share them with the club. Glad to hear you plan to keep the guitar: enjoy it and play it well!

But like all Ovations, they don't get respect in the market place and as Mikey pointed out, the economy is depressed, making it worse. It looks like the headstock was painted over. Those weren't black. Originally, they were a dark stained rosewood. Also, you guitar may have been built in in 1968, not 1967 (check out the reference section listed at the top of the page), but hey, it's 40 years old regardless. Play it and enjoy.....

[/QB] your comment on the headstock made me look through my guitars and, sure enough, my deluxe balladeer (4 digit s/n) also has the same black headstock. Seems like an unlikely coincidence. Anyone know the whole story?

The headstock face is the normal gloss black with the gold "Ovation" in place. I can't find any evidence of repair nor hidden damage. The back and edges are of a different finish as fletcher indicated. Keep in mind that the 1717 was made from '85 to '97, much later than the gits you're discussing. My serial number tag is missing, so I can't nail the year made. It's really a great Legend with some real tonal mojo, but the 'paint job' is puzzling...

But lay low and hopefully ya can snag it for a decent price. And yes, it'll probably be pricey... In my case, I'll not have any buyers remorse in that these don't show up very often and that Ol' Glory has a very special place in my life! I'll be rootin' fer ya! ![]()
