I had the 08C for almost two years now and never even realized it was a "wide" neck. I guess my personal experience, thus my expectation, wide neck means 1-7/8" on steel strings and 2" on classical models.

Yes, I can feel major difference between 1-3/4" and 1-7/8". Dave, I agreed, but I have other wide neck but low profile. The width does make a significant difference for me, personally.

The truth is, I don't know what I want (I take comfort in knowing that I'm not alone). I bought the 47RI thinking it would be the last guitar I ever wanted. Then I traded for the 1689 and I couldn't believe how much better I sounded playing it (read - sucked less). Then, I got my 08C back from the factory yesterday after a 6 week hiatus and realized that the little bit of extra neck width makes a difference. I think a 1 7/8" would be the only way I go with a custom order, even if I had to go with a carved (unslotted) headstock. Perhaps my previous post was me “thinking out loud.” I should try not to do that in the future. :)Why not just run with the 1 3/4" neck on a custom guitar?

I have to ask ... how did you whiten the fret inlays, and WHY would you do that? Gorgeous git by the way. I love the color. It reminds me of my 1188-7. ;) Willa I whitened it with usual enamel, used a very thin brush, filled the inlays and wiped all the excess away. Best regards, Kurt
