Location: Upper Left USA		Yup... that is the 3 position, ON/ON/ON with the large toggle made by J-B-T.

Also used on Helicopters for the Seat Warmer and Weapon-Safety Bypass.

I got one and the toggle is bent.

Have to totally agree wid ya! Being a past instructor for the USAF NASA certified High Reliability Soldering course, the ol' adage of 'bigger da blog, da better da job' was totally debunked.

As a result of the NASA space program initiative study, it was determined that a typical B-52 bomber had an excess of over 200 lbs. of solder!

In the past, I've offered to conduct an hour long soldering workshop to cover the basic principles of proper soldering. The background info and logical steps are straightforward and can be mastered by anyone that can plug in a soldering iron.

The bottom line is cleanliness and proper heat transfer...

Interesting. I was NASA certified back in '79 during my Radio Fundamentals Electronics class in the Marines... :) Our Instructor would pound into us, Prep, prep prep! Perfect fillets every time!

I think proper soldering technique is one of those few things that actually makes the job easier, fun and faster. The whole "more is better" with solder is actually the opposite of the truth, but I have met people who believe it. Not to mention, as is likely in the above case, the switch likely failed because of damage from excess heat.

I encourage anyone doing minor repair to take a proper soldering course. Even if you choose to take "shortuts," with the proper training... doing a "quick and dirty" will result in a better quality and longer lasting connection.

Absolutely drove me nuts until I finally got it right!

One surefire way to get a cold solder joint is to blow on it while the solder is solidifying. I had students that would unconsciously do that and wonder what happened. :confused:

Location: Jet City		FWIW, the pictured switch is working just fine. I acquired a blonde Viper with an incorrect 2 way mini-switch on it and I'd like to get it back to original shape. It makes Viper #3, so I'll hafta be making a decision on what to keep and what to let go of soon.

I think this may be a factory solder job.

Iffy, I put the pick guard assy back on. Are there many different 3 way bat switches like these on the Os? If I need to, let me know and I'll remove the pickguard assy again and look for a part#.
