To be honest, I just never got into playing one of Michael's fits-of-genius. I will post some photos later, for those of you who haven't seen this creation before. It is an exquisite instrument, and needs to be played by "someone of an electric persuasion", and that's just not me. Basically, a Breadwiner, Viper p'ups, with a Preacher Deluxe neck. That abbreviation certainly doesn't do it justice, though. I will work out a fine deal with any OFC member, but WILL NOT post it to FleaBay! "Casting pearls before swine" is my kneejerk reaction to that particular option. I'm looking to flip the critter for what I've got into it, so that's four-hunnert, delivered CONUS. A lot more, anywhere else, though The Mates in OZ might need this beauty, badly. Lemme know your interest levels. I'm really in no rush. I doubt any of my USA brethren are expecting significant discretionary funds from tax returns (I'm still salving my wounds, to be sure!) I will be posting the Carlos Arbee & CC-059 Retread to the vagaries of auction soon. I'll post those listings, as they come to bear. Also, I've had my fun with the construction of the MondoMando. If someone REALLY is enthused about obtaining an 8-string contraption, Master-Grade spruce top, Adamas bracing, with a MANLY voice & attitude, and the aesthetic presentation of "Art Nouveau Meets CAT Scan", we can work something out. Just spitballin' here, but somewhere in the neighborhood of two Franklins & a Grant, delivered? BTW, not A/E (yet). Awrite, enough meanderings........

Damon, you & Mike may have some collusion to accomplish. Patch, the MondoMando is, essentially, a 25-1/4"-scale mandolincello, made from a Celebrity CC-057 bowl, an unfinished Martin 12-string neck, an altered trapeze tailpiece (8-string, in 4 pairs), with the most creative, if I say so myself, 4-layered wood-veneer epaulets, on a "Curly Bear" Sitka spruce soundboard. I had to relearn reading music sheets, cuz it's tuned C-G-D-A, in bass-clef notation. Stay tuned. The photos should be posted by about 9:00 PM PDT, on all the critters I've mentioned.

Still can't wait to see it though. And I know exactly what you mean about the tuning. I'm mostly a self-taught strummer, so the chordings on these instruments are finger breakers for sure. But it sounds so nice, I just have to keep at it.

Joined: November 2002 Posts: 3664 Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | I wuz thinkin' the 059 to start at $125.00 @ FleaBay. That's less than a third of a new one. The original preamp was an OP-20, with a tuner section in it. The scale length is 25-&-1/4", with nutwidth 1-&-7/8". It is in an OHSC, but wasn't going to be included in the auction listing. Hey, thanks Mike! High praise, indeed!

Joined: November 2002 Posts: 3664 Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Noted in 2nd entry: "I had to relearn reading music sheets, cuz it's tuned C-G-D-A, in bass-clef notation" The string gauge is pretty manly, too. .074-.048-.035-.026. Actually, it plays pretty easy. The nutwidth is 1-&3/4", and about 5/32" at the 12th fret, on the bass side. The neck is fairly deep-1.043 @ the 1st fret. Those ARE some stout cables, after all. Also, my 1st (full) fret job. Now, that's a real artform. The wires are solid, and level, but some of the angles are a bit off-the-vertical, to be truthful. Gotta get myself one of those pressing cauls for my next project. BTW, it's got real wood binding, not plastic, on the rim. The tailblock, under the soundboard, is a bit oversize, since the trapeze tailpiece is secured to it. I really oughta pop the hatchcover, and take some photos of the bracing.

Joined: November 2002 Posts: 3664 Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Just as an update, and unsolicited "bump": The CC059 Retread is going to Grenada, the BW Limited went home, the MondoMando bidder had car trouble (though I have offered a second chance to one of Our Order), & the Carlos Arbee is on "best offer" status on The 'Bay. The vicissitudes of capalism........
