Location: Chicago | My early 70s Legend needs a new bridge; The neck also needs to be refinished. What do you folks think about the choice: have it done at the factory (if so where? how?) or should I scout around Chicago for a decent Luthier like Third Coast?
Also mine is not "wired"; Any advice on which pickup system is best for a deep-bowl? Fishman? K & K System?

Location: Chicago | Thanks Jeff, I'll do that. My old "unwired" Legend sounds louder and better than my new Al DiMeola Signature. I wonder if the OP PRO etc. might not impair the natural beauty of the sound. What do you think?

Location: SoCal | comparing identical models (except for the pre-amp v. acoustic) - have to believe the old stacked tone/vol had little or no negative.
this is true on the 1776 Patriot, Custom Legend, and the 12-string GC 12-string.
they should have the new ones at the factory as they have come out with the reissues and used them on the Lennon reissue.
not many features but a strong pre-amp. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Common sense tells me that a saddle with piezo crystals, plastic, goop and god knows what else has to be less efficient at energy transfer than good old bone on bridge. But sadly my skill level prevents me from hearing any difference, Dave |

Location: Warren,Pa. | The repairs should be done at the factory; nobody does it better. Electronics can be a matter of economics. Ovation makes the best preamps. As far as pickups go, I prefer K&K's in my Ovations. There is a more direct connect than all the layers of stuff in the original Ovation P/U. BUT!!!...the new VIP preamp might just make that a mute point. If money is a small concern, VIP preamp and any Ovation p/u. Does that clear it up for you? John <>{ |

Location: SE Michigan | I just sent my Legend in for a neck reset and I asked if I could also get the VIP and they said it was not available yet.
bauerhillboy, I am curious about your installing a K&K using the Ovation preamp. Could I do this and retain the OP-PRO? Does it just plug right in or is there some wire splicing and soldering involved? How well does the K&K work with the OP-PRO?

Location: Warren,Pa. | The K&K p/u's come wired to a 1/4" switchjack. I take the wires off the 1/4" jack and solder them onto an 1/8" jack. I'm no electronics wizard...I just like to tinker around, and this job takes me around 10 min. The 1/8" jack plugs right into the OpPro. The sound of the K&K is as natural a sound as you could possibly imagine. Compared to the Ovation P/U, the K&K is a lot more sensitive to your body coming in contact with the guitar(tapping the guitar). This has never been a problem for me. I also notice that the connection between the tuner and the P/U's is slightly diminished compared to the Ovation P/U. The way this fleshes out is I need to pluck the string a lot more as I'm tuning.
