i just found this site and wanted to thank you all for the information available to a new ovation owner. Two weeks ago I decided to replace my beginner guitar with something a little more "upscale". I went to the store expecting to buy a martin or taylor, not really even considering an ovation, but told myself on the ride up to the store to go by the sound not the name. To my suprise, my 1861 lx sounded just as good as anything else i played, my second choice was a d-16gt. I could not be more happy about my new guitar, and am glad there is a forum to share , and learn more about it.

Hey Upstate. Welcome to the board. New member here myself. Like you, I was in the market for a new acoustic. Had been looking for a new acoustic for some time and sampled a lot of guitars. Was all set to buy a Taylor 814ce despite it lacking lows and being a better fingerstyle than pick guitar, at least to my ear anyway. Used to play my aunt's Ovation quite a bit many years ago. Decided to give them a look again before finalizing my decision. I will be ordering a C2078LX tonight. More balanced, again IMHO, and half the price.

Good group around here that seems eager to help. Again, welcome.

I was in the same situation as you when I bought my Ovation. I was just about to say yes on a Martin 16GT when I spotted the 1771LX. I was also looking at a Taylow 110 AE, but the Ovation was by far the most guitar for the money.

Huh???

Best I could come up with was this post by Stevers, posted 23 March, 2004

First you come up with the infirmity of your choice... Blind, Lame, Diabetic, Asthmatic, or whatever.

Next pick your favorite fruit... Lemon, Lime... You get the drift.

The only thing left is the last name of a President, living or dead, and you're all set to sing the blues.

I personally go by Arthritic Kiwi Madison...

Anything else is open.

Nice to see another New Yorker! I work in Waterford, live in Northville. Really enjoy these guitars. Have a Duo going that is meliorating into an interesting collection of music. We are planning on booking some gig's in the Albany area. If you have time to just stop in for a drink or diner at one of these dates, I'll give you a heads up when they come up. You need to see the small collection of O's I am currently using. I always get comments! Enjoy

Ho there Upstate. I might live in the UK, but I spent a year as an exchange student in Burnt Hills, NY. Are you near there? Wonderful part of the world (sigh)
