I don't know why I happen to know that and it bothers me a bit that I do. As to the guitar, it's very likely legit. The highlight shows are still shown on PBS from time to time, at least out here, and are hosted by the stars of the original show. My grandparents knew Welk from his early days in the Dakotas, and my grandmother was a big fan of the TV show. I would watch with her from time to time, and I remember Clay Hart... he was one of the younger cast members and would play Glen Campbell and other "modern" C/W tunes. Interesting that this thread popped up. I'm not a big fan of the highlight shows personally, but I do get a bit nostalgic when I stumble across them. Welk's closing theme song is guaranteed to make me think of my grandmother, and bring a smile. :)

I just thought it was kinda funny that the seller would use a Lawrence Welk connection--of all people--to generate interest in a guitar. It's also representitive of the typical kind of mis-information you see in Ebay listings (referring to the dates), intentional or otherwise. The seller has a 100% feedback rating. You don't get that by intentionally using misleading or inacurate information in your descriptions.
