I guess the header says it all, I'm deciding between these two guitars. Haven't played either but I've learned you can order an Ovation sight unseen with little chance of disappointment. I'm leaning toward the 2079, but am interested in the informed opinions of those here. Thanks.

Sound should be very similar. The big advantage of the 2079 is the contour bowl and of course the look of all that abalone trim. It probably comes down to personal preference, but my vote is solidly for the 2079. Dave

It's so tough to get the side by side comparisons that you want to get.
When I bought my AD-II is was lucky enough to be able to A/B the AD and a 30th anniversery. It was close, but I went with the AD.
One thing for sure....the AD will be weight more. The K-bar is alot heavier than the new LX truss rod system.
The AD has just as much bling.
The AD does have the neat little lead boost button. Yeah...Like I'm ripping off leads all the time.
And....Welcome to the OFC.
One more thing...Check out the FOR SALE section. There is a thread about a new AD-II.

and rumor has it that AL currently has an ADII ready to ship at an outstanding price (which might help you to decide!)

This is what exactly I'm thinking and planing.
I will vote for c2079LX due to its bowl.

But there is no 'natural top' offer as ADII has.
(Can wait 3 months for a custom order if you like natural same as me)

it might be more difficult to make decision if in the future
c2079LX offers natural top while ADII go contour Bowl.

Enjoy your new O

Waiting 3 months for something special you really want is not a big deal. I'm currently in waiting mode for an Ovation and I've previously waited 7 months for a Martin. It's well worth being patient to get what you really want.

My personal opinion is that certain guitars "need" to be specific colors. Telecasters need to be white. Strats need to be sunburst. Adamas need to be blue ... and Custom Legends need to be BLACK.

That last payment will be due before you know it!

The C2078 is a winner!

Actually Wood-man brings up a good point. When you custom order and put half down it does seem to "soften the blow" so to speak. On my recent purchase my wife saw the credit card bill with the final 50% payment and commented "Gee that's pretty expensive, but I guess you work hard and deserve it." Good girl. I didn't have the heart to ruin her (and MY) day by telling her the whole story. Dave

Questions like that need to be in the "briefing package" Mark (in Boise) signs before his visit!

I guess the choice is between old technology and new. The LX features are meaningful.
Caution...Have you played a countour bowl??? Some folk here have found that they don't like them as much as the old roundback.

There is a definately different feel to the contour. After about 15 minutes of trying various adjustments I was back to feeling right.

I would also suggest a suede or leather strap for 12 strings due to the drooping headstock effect.

Geez, Dave, I want to meet this woman. More importantly, I want my wife to meet her. But then, my wife might come away thinking I need to work a lot harder to deserve what I've got. Or they might both decide that they deserve to run up the gold cards at the mall.
If you have any guitars that are the wrong color, I'll just take them back with me.

Or, they might both decide neither of you deserve your spouses. See the thread "Slothead Warning", posts 49 and 50.

I'm glad you got some help, FA.

But tell me, at which of the other guitar forums did you find this help?

I've played both. Get the C2079LX, it has a richer sound. But there is no loser between these two. If for some reason, the ADII appeals to you more from the looks or comfort standpoint, get it and don't look back.

Agreed. After reviewing the specs and reviewing the posts here, I'm going to go with the 2079. The sticker shock is not as bad as I thought it might be.
