Can anyone recommend a good place to find a bone nut and saddle to replace the plastic ones that are on this custom legend 1119-4, built in 1975?

thanks,

john

Both the nut and saddle have to be custom made. The nut is very difficult to do yourself and is best left for a good luthier. Probably would cost about $50.

The saddle is also tricky because Ovation saddles are thicker than those on most other guitars. You have to get an extra thick blank ($5) and carefully sand it down for both size and thickness. I've done it but it's a lot of work to get it right.

I don't think that either is worth the money or effort because the improvement in sound is really not noticeable. Your 1119 CL should sound great as is.

bone is different to tusq to plastic to brass. None of them are better, just different.

Why not try the factory?
Depending on the year many Custom Legends came with bone nuts. This being acoustic it is much easier for a bone saddle than having one made for the pickup.

That's a good suggestion Bill.

John, you can email the factory for an approximate cost. I'm still not sure that you'll notice a difference in sound though.
