To me the rip off P. Diddy and crew do are too blatant. About time they got called on it. |

However, we have a much better argument than our parents did.
And just to show that all is not lost, my 20 year old son has just "discovered" Bob Dylan all on his own. |

This is the only recent successful suit I know that has stopped the rappers from ripping people off. And P. Diddy is one of the biggest culprits. You have to admit that George Clinton is a master musician, even if funk is not your cup of tea. It should be of interest to musicians who write original material. I hope people come out of the woodwork and nail P. Diddy.
I agree that rap in mono rhythmic / mono harmonic / mono melodic and boring with for the most part little redeeming social value ...
PS That is a disgusting emoticon! |

Location: New York, NY | There actually have been an increasing number of these cases being brought against rappers. Aside from perhaps the funniest and best known - Queen vs. Vanilla Ice for his blatent theft of "Under Pressure", there have also been suits in the past 20 years brought by everyone from Geogre Clinton (this one and another against rappers NWA a while ago )to Neil Diamond (against the Beastie Boys).
Just a little Copyright 101 tidbit for your reading pleasure. |

Ironically I was just watching Concert For George again last night. Man I love that DVD and Billy Preston singing "My Sweet Lord" literally brings tears to my eyes. I've never seen such an inspired performance in my life.
