Mott the Hoople was a little before my time, but I love the live Ian Hunter album.

I was big on Mott. I have "The Hoople" on my ipod, my favorite Mott album. Crash Street Kids, Marionette, Roll Away the Stone... great stuff. I was always more into the glam stuff like Mott, Bowie, Queen, and never liked southern rock.

Back then southern rock seemed like the only thing I could latch on to..lol

It was like kick ass guitar to me but looking back now it was all OK.

Here's quite a long boring story: A friend of mine had a sister who worked at a Fox Photo, a free standing booth in the middle of a supermarket parking lot, where you dropped off your film for developing (late 70's).

There was this guy who drove around and picked up film from the booths and delivered photos. To make points with my friend's sister, he told her he was Overend Watts, from Mott.

She called us up and we hightalied it to Fox Photo, albums in hand to meet Overend Watts. He was not Overend Watts, just a photo delivery dude. We had the album jacket to prove it.

A true brush with greatness.

They were a staple for me for a while ... same basic time as Bowie, Pretty Things, T-Rex, Harry Nilsson, Lou Reed, Queen, and even Elton John in the glam days. What a great time for some really creative music. All the Way to Memphis was another song of theirs I liked.

I was a big Mott the Hoople fan. Had a couple of records (remember them?). Ian Hunter does a kick ass version of Once Bitten Twice Shy on his Welcome to the Club album.

it was back in 74 I was still in HS and a good friend that was leaving for college wanted us all to see Mott the hoople before he left.

we went to E.j. Korvettes (east coast reference) to their ticket center and were PISSED that the tickets cost $6. after all we had just seen the allman brothers band for $3.50 with 2 opening acts only a few months before.

got the tickets for the shubert theatre in philly it is next to the academy of music on broad st. (I think it is now part of a music school since they didn't do too many shows there.) beautiful place.

Queen cancels, REO speedwagon is their replacement. a good set but then Ian and the boys came on. They kicked butt. To this day it rates among the top 5 shows that I saw in my life. closing number all the young dudes.

next day I went over to 8th street music when it was still located on 8th street and not arch as it is today and wanted to purchase a faux fur guitar strap just like Ian Overand and Ariel used. but at $25 bucks (remember this was 74 I had to let it go. I think I bought a rev trem pedal for my fender amp instead for $10)

I sent my friend Will the pics that you guys can't see here. He was the guy that moved away. Funny how we still keep in touch all these years and our binding agent is mott the hoople LOL

anything mott and pre are really killer stuff. sorta like listing to benefit and stand up for the true tull fans

I think there's a Mott the Hoople LP (Greastest Hits?) in that box of albums I gave you...
