I believe Ovation is phasing out the 1771 Balladeer.I have an opportunity to buy one at a good price because of this.Anybody have one and how is the sound,quality etc.My other guitars are a Martin D-18V,Matin 000c-16rgt aura and a Larrivee om-3re.

Nice guitars. An ovation would make a nice compliment to the sound you have going.

Unfortuately, I am not familiar enough with the 1771 to help you out (other than giving your question a bump back to the top)!

I'm sorta in love with a cedar top Baladeer Special at my local GC. I took a complete noob (who at my advice bought an '05 collector's from Al) in the expensive room in the back. He coulndn't understand why someone would spend $2700 on the Taylor I was comparing it too, when the Ovation sounded better!!

I have a close friend who has one that I play and maintain often (clean, oil fingerbd., change strings, adj. trussrod, etc.). If you were enamoured with Ovations to the point of being unreasonably biased toward them (as some of us are), and the only way you could afford one was to find a smokin' deal on one, then I'd say buy it. IMHO, it's not one of Ovation's better sounding guitars and, considering the other guitars you own, the 1771 would be an embarassing example of Ovation's offerings. You'd get a much better guitar in a Baladeer LX, and the GC Baladeer Special has an incredible sound. I bought my STD.Elite LX slightly used on Ebay for $550. I'd wait for a deal like that on a Baladeer LX. THEN you'd have an Ovation that could stand up to the likes of your other guitars. Humbly submitted, John <>{

I think that a little Applause sounds as good as some of those "other wooden" guitars.

Yeah, I have to agree.
Friday, on the way home from work (late) I stopped by the GC in Dallas. and looked at the WALL were all the "O's" hang. played a few. Played the U681T that's very nice but then I played the GCS771LX-C, and I Bleepin bought it! like I needed another guitar. Anyway the Cedar top, Action, smell, neck, rosette, SOUND, just worked and I couldn't resist. It wasn't as nice as the U681T, it's less than half the price of the U681T. :D
