McLaughlin's My Goal's Beyond, side one taken as a suite of 8 tunes stands the test of time as a classic (Micael Hedges and James Taylor list it as one of their top 3)!

Speaking of Tony Rice...

...just about anything by Norman Blake (...okay, I know all those notes are in there somewhere...)!

Another would the The Lord's Prayer by Larry Carlton; it's one that I've learned - and relearned (!) a few times. Just beautiful; really does make you want to stop what you're doing and just listen and meditate...

How about Jesse Cook?

I know it's world music pap, but I find it a guilty pleasure.... Like Andy Kims 'Sugar Sugar'(the Archies)

"Andecy" by Andrew York. I've spent years trying to get that song down. The notes are there but the feel is something else.

Lefty,

I will agree on Norman Blake ... Lost Indian is a particular favorite.

Last week-end I saw several of the finest acoustic guitar players of our day in downtown Argyle, TX ... Tim Stafford, Audie Blaylock, Jim Hurst, Kenny Smith ... After listening to them for a couple of nights, you don't know whether to go home and practice, or just give up.

And I can't make a list and leave off Doc Watson ... everything from Black Mountain Rag to Summertime

Stephen Stills' "Bluebird." "Black Queen" is not bad either. And he does a pretty break in Emmy Lou's "Wandering Wayfarer."
