Location: Spokane, WA | I recently picked up a 1674 and love the width of the neck. I haven't played many nylon string guitars in the past, but that's growing on me as well. The big ole meathooks on the ends of my arms just don't work so well on the 1 11/16" necks for anything except strumming. My question, other than the 6774, what are some wide neck (1 7/8" or 1 3/4") steel string models that ovation has put out over the years? Any really stand out as something special? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Josh White and Folklore (1614). They both have 12 fret necks. I really like the sound of the Folklore and it is easier to fingerpick, which is what I do most. It's not quite as easy to get a clear barre chord, however, as my 1537, but I don't have anything that is as easy to play as my 1537. |

Other than that you have to special order something wide. |

Location: Michigan | the old 1114 would work for ya too and its a lot cheaper than the 1614 if you can find one. i never thought about what mark mentioned about barre chords, but i do notice that they are a bit harder on a wide neck. hmm guess 1 guitar cant do everything well... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | It's not just the difference in the width, which is hardly a factor for me between the standard width and the width of a Folklore or CA, but it's the flat fretboard versus the radius on a "standard" guitar. I have less difficulty pushing all the strings down on the curve than on the flat.
In any event, one guitar cannot do everything. That's what I keep telling my wife, but she quit believing me about 8 guitars ago. |
