I like the 2006 Collector and hear it sounds good. Except for the goofy colored eapulets. I have done some image editing and came up with these. Any opinions?

First one is the 2080, second one the Adamas CVT, the third one is the Koa wood with the grain rotated 90 degrees and 15% darker.

I like the first one with the darker epaulet. I made this same comment to the Ovation folks at last year's factory tour. I think the contrast adds boldness to the design. The other wood tones don't seem to complement the koa. The darker epaulet also complements the bridge, fingerboard, TRC, and tuner knobs.

I like the looks of the middle one best.

No reason, just like the looks.

Me, too on the middle one. The other 2 need a little more variety.

How about an epulet in solid 24c Gold plate like the tuners. Now THAT would be a collector.

Number 3 and without - just holes.

Or Abalone around each hole.

I'd take any of them though, just pick'in nits.

None of them. I still like the 12 fret slothead with the oval soundhole best.

I vote for just holes, no epaulet. Guess I've been looking at my T too long ...

I know you can never satisfy everyone and I guess it's water under the bridge for 2006. But if they had choosen instead to build the 12 fret Blow Hole Koa, I knew the would have sold at least 20 to OFC members.

SOOOO, I propose that we start a massive letter, email and web forum campaign that they build the 12 fret Blow Hole Koa as NEXT YEARS collector. It makes all the sense in the world. They will have had a whole year experience working with Koa tops, a whole year experience with Blow Holes from the new adamas, etc. I'll start another thread on this subject.

Oval hole with the 12 frets, I'm with Moody.
For what's here I'll take door number two Monte.

Yup.
Yeah, I liked the 12 fret slot head too. I asked Al if they could build it for me. He said no. I thought maybe they would just put on different eapulets if I custom ordered one.

Here is the 2006 without eapulets.

That looks great with nek'd holes. Add wide neck and slothead.

I like the first one of the three. A more minimalist look with an epaulet that matches the color of the top.

The epaulet of the one in the middle reminds me of Rogue's hair from the X-Men.

center soundhole, slothead, studio pre-amp, same binding as the 2006.

not a fan of the "blowhole"; or is it a drool sump, ashtray, flower vase??

i personally never cared for only having the epaulets on the bass side. That goes for the original adamas cutaways or anything else.

i would like to see another non cutaway, deep bowl collectors, like a 1718 elite style. Koa would be fine, style of epaulet could vary, but for symmetry, i like both epaulets the same on either side...

i asked john budny if they could make a 1718 elite for me with inlayed epaulets like on the lx's and he said they could probably do it. (The CNC machine on the last tour was only set up for cutaway style)...that might be something to think about...

i wish they could make the lx features on noncutaway style models..

my $0.02.

You know, for next year's collectors, they should use Temp's Custom Folklore as a model and just go with that.

Once again.......I've gotta agree with Dave
Ovation started out with the roundback and decorative center soundhole rosette.
Next came the multi-holes with (yuck) epaulets.
I think the contoured bowl and blow hole should be the next design change in Ovation's evolution.....

The Sound-slots on the MOB are fascinating. Not the color, just the shape.

Koa, surf slots and Abalone! Add a Tourtise Shell binding!

(note to self - this is your next custom order for a Baritone). I hate it when I give myself GAS...

I like the middle one of the three. Holes only is great too. I'd perhaps more prefer with non-cut-away (like Adamas 1687) with holes on both sides simmetrical.
