First time I've seen one of these.

I contacted the seller about this guitar before seeing this. What I wanna know is why he/she wants $75 for shipping....

Yep, way too much for shipping. I won an auction on a 1767 in Phoenix. Shipping and Insurance were only $20. So, this guy is making almost 300% profit on shipping alone. Give me a break...

Stephen, I think you're right. I seem to remember seeing one too, they don't pop up that often.

To save $2.50 on eBay final value fee.

There's an Adamas with the HFX option also on Fleabay. Is it similarly rare?

Short explanation of what makes an HFX so cool?

Aside from the fact that it's fun to say, "HexFX", I suppose the coolness factor is proportional to whether or not you'll use it.
It's coupled with a 6 element piezo pickup and a stereo output, and offers a variety of choices as to how the 6 strings are output via the stereo jacks. You can split them EA/DGBE, or EAD/GBE, or EDB/AGE. Then there's a 'pan' mode which outputs the strings as they are on the fretboard, like
Left.....CTR....Right
E...A...D...G...B...E

Last is an 'auto-panning' feature which causes alternate strings to sweep from side to side, either slow or fast.
Here's a link to the manual.

As to the shipping, he says he was quoted that by a shipping store. He admitted it might be a bit much, but 'graciously' offered to refund the difference if it is. Waaayyyyy too many sellers on ebay now asking $50, or more, for shipping.

I have had a couple of Legends with the HexFx preamp. It did nothing for me, since my rig is not stereo. I'll take one with a chromatic tuner instead, thank you. More power to someone with the setup to use it.

But I must add the mea culpa that I DID bid on it. It's a moot point, since I am outbid.

(BTW, mea culpa = 'my bad' in Latin.)

He probably asked the shipper for a quote that included packaging. My father in law did that to ship a guitar to me from Iowa and it was about $75. Costs about $20 to do it yourself. It cost about $45 for UPS to pack and ship a guitar from Seattle. About the same time, MWoody sent me the wooden roundback for around $18.
I don't think paying someone to pack it is worth it. The 2 I've received haven't done anything to keep the guitar from bouncing around inside the case.

It's pretty easy to shape a cardboard seat and top that will keep the case in the middle of the box.

When I sent my slothead up to the reunion last year the local "shipping store" charged $17 just for materials... $72 total!!!
I'll never make THAT mistake again.

None of the guitar stores around here will give me a box that is big enough for the HSC. So I have to have either recently purchased a new guitar (my favorite option) or get the local shop to build one. They do get pricey since they don't have a box big enough either. They have to take two of their largest boxes and cut/tape it to fit. It does get $$$$.
