I thought these had aluminum fingerboards? Mine appears to be rosewood. Maybe this neck is from another guitar? Are these necks interchangeable? Thanks for any info |

Location: Phoenix AZ | The fretboard is wood over an aluminum frame that includes the frets. The problem is that you can not re-fret these instruments. When the frets get worn you just replace the entire neck. It's sorta like putting a whole new engine in your car instead of just changing the oil. Dave |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Mine's 083628, a 1976 model bought new in 1977. It has the aluminum fretboard. They didn't go to the rosewood until 1980, I think. You can easily tell by looking at the side of the fretboard. It is aluminum with black dots. The top of the fretboard is painted black and the frets are aluminum. The neck is urethane that looks like fake wood. The headstock is black on the top half and urethane brown on the back.
I think if you have a wood neck and rosewood fretboard, you have a new neck. The original idea was to replace the neck when the frets got worn. Someone may have done that to yours. |

Location: Ohio | Thanks for the info. The neck is urethane, not real wood, covered in a plastic skin. It is brown woodgrain underneath, and black on top. maybe just the fretboard was replaced? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I thought I remembered that the idea was that the fretboard could be replaced easily, but someone on this board said it was the whole neck. My long term memory is still quite good, but the short term has gone. Ours are only 600 apart. Is the headstock black on top and brown urethane on the back half? |

Location: Ohio | Yes, black on top, brown on bottom. In fact, the corner of the headstock is broken off and I can see the urethane foam inside. The fingerboard is definately wood on mine, but the serial number says it is a '74
I bought this for $30. The top is trashed. I want to replace it with .060 aluminum and an electric guitar bridge. Any opinions on this? |
