I played the 06 Koa Collector at GC in Tempe today. Setup was perfect and strings were pretty new. If I close my eyes I REALLY like the unplugged sound of this guitar. The problem for me is that I can't get past the looks. The multihole and the epaulet thing is just freaking ugly. Sorry. To think what could have been ...

I can see how a lot of people will really like this guitar. The wood is beautiful. Unfortunately it didn't look any more "expensive" than the $600. celebrity version hanging next to it. Another issue for me is that I have no interest in the electronics. I'm sure the VIP is wonderful but in my case I'd be paying a lot of money for something that has no value to me.

Summary, I REALLY like the sound. But the total package is just not for me, especially at that price. Actually the guitar didn't have a price on it, but I'm guessing around $1700.

They had a used 1767 sunburst for $499. that was very nice as well.

Dave

I played one at the GC in Cincinnati last week. Then I played an Elite T. I liked the unplugged sound of the T much better. John <>{

I played one at my local GC... it certainly was gorgeous, but I didn't think the sound was worth the price tag either.

I would pay $1700 for a used Adamas II (mint) instead.

I thoughtfully disagree. I think the sound is mind-boggling, and the mic modeling is a real plus to my recording.

I LOVE the look of the epaulet. The Maple flame runs across the bout, lining up with the awesome flame in the Koa. The contrast is stunning, highlighted by the this black edgeing.

My '06 sounds better that any ovation I have ever played, and pretty darn close to the Adamas that I have had my grubby hands on.

It is clearly in what you like. I love it.

The suggested retail is $2945, so I am told. It should be in most guitar shops between $1700 and $2000.

Mike
