I just have one quick question on the 2005 collector. I got mine in the mail today, and the finish seems a little thinner than on some of my other Ovations. I was wondering it maybe there was a varnish on this or is it the regular whatever it is. Thanks!! :p :p

The finish on the tops of the new guitars appears much thiner than the older ones. You can *almost* feel the woodgrain....

I'm no acoustic engineer, but I've always felt like the thinner the finish = more freedom for the top to vibrate. I believe (right or wrong) that this is the reason the Elite T series guitars that are finished with bowl paint (pewter, black and red) sound so amazing, especially for the price. That is also why I don't want a pickguard on my acoustic guitar tops - just something else to restrict the top vibration.

You are right. Finish will restrict the top and greatlly affect the tone. The thinner the better.

I've heard that black is the most restrictive, so that's why I don't own any. I'm sure that's why Dave sold his black Classic. That and his string tubes don't work well with nylon strings.

For years I said I would never own and Ovation, then last year I played the 2005 Collector's and it came home. It been a great traveling companion including a trip to Hawaii last summer. Now I know why. Its got great resonating tone unplugged and comes to life through my SWR California and Stawberry Blonde amps. I realy enjoy it.

Thinner is better. String tubes never work well with nylons, or pantyhose for that matter.

Thanks! Thinner is Better!! The 2005 made it's debut this morning at church. I got many compliments on my playing, but I don't know if they figured out I was playing a different guitar. Anyway this thing is really easy to play, and a pleasure to hammer away on. I can't wait to see how it opens up in a couple of years. Play on, Pray for Peace!!!!!

I Played one of the 2005's at Ted Brown this weekend. Very playable!

Playing a nice instrument just makes you feel good all over don't it!
