AFAIK they have only sampled the 06 collectors which I think is the only guitar available with the vip.
but what the hell do I know? I am just an idiot that sells gear for a living. |

Location: Chicago | My 74 Legend is at the Mother Ship. I asked John Budny to plead with Rick Hall to retrofit a VIP (or at least to allow me to send my Di Meola for a retro). Here is his reply:
"We are not allowed to retro any older guitars at this time with the VIP only the new models will have it at least for this year. Our sales and marketing guys don't want to have any problems in the field with the new product. When your here in May you might want to bug Rick Hall about this if he says OK then we can do it. Look forward to meeting you at the tour." |

Location: Chicago | Has anyone taken the VIP for a test drive? I wonder how it might compare to other effects such as the Fishman AURA or the ZOOM A2.1u that are based on "sound imaging" as well... |

Location: Orange County, California | I played the '06 collectors at guitar center today. I spent quite awhile in the "quiet cubicle" with it and let me start by saying this IS a guitar worthy of "collectors edition status" based on it's acoustic merits alone. Really really nice voice, quite unique, and brighter than I thought it would be. Out in the normal room, I played it plugged into a non-DSP Fender acoustisonic JR. I don't remember all the mic models, but they range from a very common "familiar sounding" condenser to a multi-thousand dollar diaphragm mic. Needless to say, with the blend slider, and EQ you can get a wide range of plugged in voices out of this this baby. Now, I admit being biased against the Aura and other DSP processors, because I feel they sound "over processed" and fake. The thing that I liked about the VIP5 at NAMM (where I also saw the Adamas models with it too Al) was how "natural" I could get it sound. I suppose the main advantage to this over the Fishman and Zoom is that it lives in THIS guitar, and makes THIS guitar sound "unplugged" when plugged in. BTW even without the VIP, this is a VERY NICE guitar. |
