Well, I took my old Hamer Special Graphic into a local shop to get some major finish repairs done and, since I have my new Hamer Elite, have them set the old one's action to play slide (of course I'd have to learn how :rolleyes: ). This was back on January 21st and the guy said he was pretty backed-up, so I said no hurry, just give me a call...

Never got a call so I went by the shop yesterday, the repair guy wasn't around and I see my case sitting in the back with a ticket and a note taped onto the ticket. A nice lady who works there asked if I needed help so I told her I was wondering if my guitar was done.
She says "Let's go look, you know we haven't heard from him for three weeks, now. Said he needed to make more money, we hope we hear back from him."

Well as y'all probably figured out by now the note said "Damaged in Store". I opened the case and the neck is completely broken off from where it connected to the body! :eek:
I think it's completely beyond repair now.

Well, I was somewhat flabergasted and brought it home. I just called back over there to talk to the manager. Not sure what to do about it...

The guitar was no-where near mint, it had some years of not being taken care of, but I've had that guitar for almost 25 years and it was playable....

Wow Paul,
Sorry to hear that story. Guess you know why he left so suddenly. Maybe someone at the Hamer Fan Club has one they would sell to THE STORE so you can have a guitar like the one they broke.

Are you going to Old Magnolia this weekend? I had not replied about going because it didn't look like there was any way I could attend.

Let us know what happens. I would like to get together with you guys around FT. Worth again. Have you heard from George at Denton?

Ouch! Man, that sucks! I hate to hear stories like that. Did the store make any offer to help? You should be able to get it shipped back to the factory and repaired on their dime.

My condolances Sir.

I would contact the Mgr., send the guitar back to CT for an estimate and pursue repair and compensation. If not %100 then come to a percentage agreement.

Send me some of the broken shrapnel and I'll make you a TRC or a Belt Buckle. I know you Texans love your Belt Buckles! :rolleyes:

I can't imagine the store wouldn't have insurance that would cover damage they caused to your guitar. They should repair to it's prior condition or replace it with one just like it.

This Store has an obligation to do something?? Don't you let them slide on this. We all want our stores to do the right thing... In fact the longer you wait the less important they will feel your problem is. And if they give you any lame ass crap about "the repair guy is responsible" You tell them he worked for you at the time this happened and if they want to pursue him for damages on their own.... they can. In the meantime you want some kind of fair compensation?? Go to the Hamer site and see if someone has a neck they can sell or an old guitar they do not want to bother fixing that has a decent neck. Copy the price they want and give the store the copy. I would say this would be fair in any court anywhere?? I mean what are we talking about here?? $75?? $100?? Right

I talked to the manager and he is basically willing to do whatever it takes to replace or repair or whatever. He was actually quite nice about it...

Hey, Noel, yes we are heading out to Old Magnolia Town this weekend. Haven't heard from George lately, Tomm and I have been talking a lot. We'll plan another get together herein North Texas and keep you posted. Hope your doing OK.

~~Came home this evening with a new Takamine Nashville Series EN340SC from the store.
They gave me $500 for the damage to the Hamer and the Takamine was already marked down to $1750.00 (they originally had it at $2299.00).
So, paid $1250.00 for the Tak. Of course my old Hamer is still broken, but I'll see what I can do with it one of these days.

Ridglea Music in Fort Worth is the store and they all felt terrible about the Hamer falling and breaking, Joe, the manager gave me a decent price for it, it was no where near mint...

This is a local outfit that does a lot of music lessons, has the repair shop, symphony sheet music, high school band instruments, etc. Not really a GUITAR store, all the Ovations they have (5-6, including a couple of resells on consignment) are Celebrity models.

And all the electric guitars are either beginer guitars or mid-level (a couple of decent Ibanez's and neat Seagull and Godin nylon string electrics).

The two higher end guitars they had in stock were the Nashville I now own and a Takamine Natural Series model, they now have listed for $1600.00. Both are really beautiful guitars:

I've played both of them a lot as my two step-daughters had been taking music lessons on Saturdays up until a couple of months ago (bass and violin). So during the hour they were in lessons, I sat and played several of the guitars they had in stock and decided this was the best one they had. And, I liked it and I really love the sound...

One thing I noticed after coming home and looking over the Takamine web site is my ENV40SC has the Cooltube preamp whereas the web site shows this model comes with the CT4B and it's the TNV**** series that has the Cooltube. Maybe the web site is out of date....

Anyway it's going to make a nice compliment to my Legend 1867!! And thanks to Joe, Brian and Paul at Ridglea music...

I'll premier it this weekend at BB Rovers in Austin with Kid On A Pony :)

I have a story not unlike this one, but never really got anywhere near satisfaction until I traded the guitar in for my Elite. I had '73 Tele Custom and took in for a neck adjustment. The tech stripped the truss rod hex socket and chipped the head stock. So I get a call form the store 'we've broken your guitar and are trying to locate a new neck' They eventually found one, they couldn't get a new neck claiming Fender wouldn't sell them the neck and decal to prevent countfeiting. Being young and having three kids with more important thing s to do, I just accepted the repaired guitar and never really played it again. As I mentioned though it did come in handy as trade bait for my Elite which is another story(one of my gorls fell on it and cracked the top). Glad to hear you made out OK.
