Location: New Hampsha | Last night I completed the repair on an Applause AA-21 fixer-upper. With its' new bridge it is absolutely like new - better even because I installed real Ovation Schallers in place of the originals.
New deep bowl, new strings, new everything - nice low action, no buzzies - and I tried it out.
Then I compared it to my new 6778LX. Played one, switched and played the other. Acoustic only.
No comparison possible!!!! :eek:
Incredible that a mid bowl wood top new guitar could sound so radically better than a deep bowl wood top new guitar from the same maker! Why?!?
Materials? bracing? center hole vs. multi-holes? :confused:
Being a Mechanknuckle Engineer, I'm resisting the temptation to take 'em apart... |

Location: Upper Left USA | I find it amazing and interesting that my LX and my Papoose both have a kind of scallopped X bracing and share some characteristics in dynamics.

Location: closely held secret | Quality solid wood vs. Home Depot plywood, the X bracing...
Remember the top (bracing included) is probably the single most important factor in tone. |

Location: New Hampsha | I am definitely going to hunt down a crushed Ovation (w/ good neck and body) so I can try to replicate the top and bracing. It would be really interesting to have an arangement that allowed tops to be swapped out and compared.
