One of the things I enjoy most about the OFC Factory tour is seeing all those beautiful O's our members bring. I plan to bring the best O ever made. I'll enjoy sharing my treasure with a group who knows and respects the quality and workmanship of a superior instrument. Perfect action, sound and a work of art. Al Demeola would be jealous.

Someone tell me there won't be any issues flying with a Guitar Case from SEA to BDL, and all stops in between!

I bet Tommy's going to bring his Custom Legend. Woodrow, you should have no problems on the airlines with your case.

Do a search for the American Federation of Musicians letter concerning transporting guitars. It was written by Thomas Blank, the Assistant Administrator for Security Regulation and Policy to Thomas Lee of the AFM. It says that the Transportation Security Administration's policy as of 12/20/02 is to allow musical instruments as carry on baggage in addition to the usual one bag and one personal item. Dated Jan. 17, 2003.
The AFM suggests you print a copy of the letter and take it with you so they'll let you carry your guitar on the airplane. They fit in most overhead bins. I'd do a link, but I can't remember how I found it last time.

Tommy forgot to mention that although he lives in Cherry Hill NJ, he's getting to the Ovation Tour via Phoenix (ha ha).

Greg, I'm afraid they don't let us take them out of the factory without paying for them...

...and I definitely want to try your 2080!

Here\'s a link to the actual TSA letter in PDF format. Bear in mind, the TSA has no actual authority to tell the airlines what they can or can't charge for, or what they have to allow in the cabin (Schroeder, for instance). The letter applies to security and check-in and gate personnel.

The flight cabin crew are the last word on what can go in the cabin. This is where pleasant and polite can mean the difference between your guitar being nice and cozy in an overhead or closet, or cold, lonely and in imminent danger of rocketing down a baggage carousel.

However, if all else fails, airline personnel might be cowed by waving a government letter about.

A couple of tips from my last 2 guitar trip. Get seats toward the back, or if you're on Southwest with no assigned seating, get in the first group and go immediately toward the back. The back usually has more space in the overheads. Go for the left side of the plane (facing forward) because it is easier to swing the guitar case up on that side and point the head backwards in the overhead bin.
If you travel through Las Vegas everybody has guitars, so you are nothing special.

They don't let us carry them out???? man, that is narrow minded of them!!! I figure that since i am now a dealer they will let me have a few dozen free samples.

Waskel, you may be the SECOND person to play my new 2080. I get the feeling that once it gets into other hands, i may not see it again unitl time to go home...IF THEN!

Don't worry about bringing the letter with you ... there are no issues taking a guitar along. That letter was done just after the 9/11 airport lockdowns when there was speculation that the bad guys could take a string off a guitar and use it as a garotte, and TSA put the issue to rest.

I will say that you need to be prepared to "gate check" your guitar so make sure you pack it well and transport it in your Ovation hardshell case. Some airlines and/or employees take the maximum dimensions rule very seriously and will make you give it to someone at the end of the jetway for stowing in the luggage compartment. Then they hand carry the guitar back to you as you get off the plane.

As for me, I'm going to be in several cities leading up to the event and dragging anything other than my Traveler may be too burdensome. :(

Since BrianT and I are driving in we got lots of room.
I'll bring:
My AD-II...uke...and just for kicks, my Breadwinner.
And..I'm bringing last years Booted Celebrity back to the scene of the crime. I don't know what will happen to it there but I plan on using the "One guitar out...One guitar in" plan on Mrs. Slipkid. Wish me luck...I'll need it.

Just order something new from Al and have it waiting in the lobby for you.
Problem solved.
Your welcome.
