As I have previously mentioned I am arranging for some guitar clinics this year. If you already have been to the factory and do not wish to make that tour again, in the hotel conference room we will meet for a clinics on Friday and Saturday mornings. Friday am from 9-10 Johnny will run a singer songwriter clinic. IF you have been to any of the past OFC gatherings you will recognize Johnny and his 12 string Melissa Etheridge model. He is an accomplished singer songwriter and has selflessly agreed to share his talent with our group. Here is an outline of what he will try to acoomplish. The singer/songwriter workshop: Have a song idea in your head that you just can't seem to materialize? Do you feel stuck fumbling around day after day trying to marry the same cliche' lyrics with some boring, predictable chords? Do you secretly dream about the day when you can proudly step up to the local open mic and play an original song that people will really appreciate? This workshop is designed to jump start the novice songwriter, and give the intermediate songwriter some fresh ideas. Songwriting is a process...a personal one. There are so many approaches, no clear cut formulas, and, at times, the process can feel very elusive and frustrating. While everyone has their opinion as to what makes a good song, we will discuss some elements that will help keep the audience listening and interested in your song-regardless of how simple it is, how advanced your guitar playing is, or what style of music you play. There are even some simple guitar techniques that can add some spice and groove to an otherwise boring original song performance. You may walk away with some inspiration, a better understanding of songs & songwriting, or you just might find that elusive ingredient that your own masterpiece is missing. You will definitely walk away with a reference list of good books dealing with songwriting, lyric writing, and other aspects of the craft that will assist you in having a greater understanding of the process. If you are interested in attending please e mail me at alpep@aol.com with Johnny workshop in the subject heading and your name, OFC handle and address in the message. From 10-11 we will have Paul Templeman, an accomplished player. Paul hails from across the pond so I will avail myself as interpreter. Paul will be sharing making fingerstyle playing an easy task Here is an outline of what you can expect from Paul. "Painless Fingerstyle Guitar" Aimed at strummers who would like to play fingerstyle, anyone who thinks fingerstyle is too difficult, and anyone who has tried to play fingerstyle and given up. No music theory required, just a few chord shapes. The workshop will concentrate on right hand technique and 3 simple picking patterns (plus a number of variations) which will allow you to create your own fingerstyle song accompaniments. If you are interested in attending please e mail me at alpep@aol.com with templeman workshop in the subject heading and your name, OFC handle and address in the message. I will outline Saturday's clinics when I get confirmation. Please, do not fill up this thread with meaningless comments, inside jokes and messages. Although I do not like to kill posts, this time I will.

If someone else wants to record them with the permission of JOhnny and Paul I have no problem with that. I cannot satisfy everyone. Of course if you are a first timer you want to come to the tour and the clinics but the clinics were meant are an alternative to the tour for those that have seen the factory tour. You all have free will, make a decision. If you have ever been to any conventions before there are always cool things going on at the same time and you have to make choices. I am still working on how I am going to cut myself in half and be at the factory and at the hotel at the same time. Maybe I can just get creamated and you can split me up in a couple of 2 liter coke bottles and send me around like you do the book....

First, let me ask of Paul and Johnny - would you guys mind having your workshops taped for the unpublished benefit of the OFC members that are attending the factory tours? If not, I have a camcorder and tripod that I'm sure one of the participants could set up at both seminars.

Obviously, it ain't viable for me to pop over for the weekend, even if I could afford it. You Yanks get all the fun. Muz
