Joined: April 2006 Posts: 2 | Hi folks, first post here and I'm afraid its a problem! I bought a Legend LX in December last year, the guitar is beautiful but I've been having a problem with the Op-Pro preamp/tuner flashing intermitantly whilst not being played, hence running a lot of batteries down! I wondered if this was a common problem and If anyone could give me any adivce about sorting it out... I live in England but I imported the guitar from the US, so would this cause a problem with contacting Ovation in the UK for a replacement? thanks in advance for your help, John.

I think you have two options. First is contact John Hornsby Skews and Co Ltd, the UK agent. You probably already know this and you may get the excuse from them, that as you did not buy it in the UK, you will have to pay for the new pre-amp. The web site is www.jhs.co.uk. I have always found them helpful, but I bought my guitar from them. Or you could try your luck with the factory. The guys over the pond are always saying how great they are, so this may be your first port of call. Piers Kent UK

And are you by chance, leaving the unit plugged in with the instrument chord when you set it down and are not playing it?

Does the unit flash when you take it out of the guitar? You could look at the Harness from the Can to the receptacle to see if you might have a short or a partial ground. Maybe put a meter on some of the contacts check for continuity move the harness around when you have the meter conected.

I put in a brand new battery, and after 2 weeks(not plugged in at all) and the LED starts flashing. Old Ovation pre-amps are supposed to run 2,000 hours on a battery(I have 2 of these and I swear it's true), but I don't get 20 hours out of this one. I know the OP-Pro has more bells and whistles, but this can't be correct. Maybe the contacts are connected somehow even with the cable out?

If you can't identify a short or partial ground around the jack, I'd invest the cash in calling the mothership, or emailing kkeller-kmc@kaman.com and see what they suggest. They really are the best I've ever dealt with. The batteries in my LX's last for LONG time. Of course actual battery life depends on a lot of factors like how much you use the tuner, how much you play plugged in vs. acoustic, and if you leave the cable plugged in all the time, which leaves the preamp turned on. Good luck!
