hey guys i just need some help here... im interested in buying an Elite T or a Balladeer LX... im in between Elite 1778T, Elite 1868t-5 and a Balladeer LX 1771... what i like the most about 1778t and Balladeer LX is the mid depth bowl... wich aparently Elite 1868t-5 doesnt has, in the looks i like the Elite 1868t-5 way much better, and its more confortable i guess since its supershallow, but tell me u guys... hows the sound of Elite 1868t-5??... any recommendations?

Other thing... ummm... is there any Soundhole Silencer Cover for Ovations??

I'd go for the Elite T. It's not as flashy, but it has about the best tone-to-body ratio of any of the ones you mentioned. It plays beautifully, and sounds great plugged or acoustic. And, it's typically a lot less investment than most other Elite models.

An added bonus with the T's are when your Toddler whacks it with a Playskool toy it's ok!

There are Feedback Busters for mono and multi-hole Guitars.

Give Alpep an email.

I object to that on multiple counts:

1. My toddler has YET to impact my guitars...thus she still lives.

2. Guitars are best kept out of reach of small hands and short humans (sorry to those of you vertically challenged)

3. Playskool toys aren't made like they used to be - the ones I grew up with were just big rocks with fancy labels on them.

The joys of parenthood...

I'd go for the 1778T. I have owned both the 1868T and the 1778T. I still own (in the permanent herd) the 1778T. Without a doubt, the T's are exceptionally fine sounding and playing guitars, but you will definitely notice the extra bowl depth on the 1778T over the 1868T when you play unplugged. In actual use, you'll hardly notice the difference in "bowl depth feel" once you start playing (and I have a significant bowl myself ...). My 2 cents.

Make sure you find one that was made in the last year and a half or so with the LX neck, not the Kaman bar truss rod. You'll know it's the newer version if it has a truss rod cover on the headstock. The LX neck system is a real bonus with the dual action truss rod and the graphite stiffeners.

I wanted an Elite 1778T after playing one at the local GC. I called Al and he had one for sale. I tried it and he said he also had a 1868T if I wanted to try it. Well, I'm not a shallow body man, but I'll give it a try. I wound up walking out of his house with the 1868T. I love it. Its got a great sound on its own. Since I play through an acoustic amp, the small body makes it so much more comfortable to play, rarely produces feedback, and plays like an electric. So to answer your question: If you are playing gigs through and amp, go with the 1868T. I dig the finish too, I leave out on a guitar stand in my den and constantly pick it up. Although I would agree with Robbie on the newer neck system, if you can get it.

By the by...my daughter has a shallow bowl Elite T and while it doesn't sound like a mid-bowl, it does sound better than any other shallow bowl Ovation I've ever heard by a long shot.

It's more the texture of a pickup bed liner for those of us in the sticks.

Don't know...don't think I have asked the price before buying.

Haven't had to, always got a fair deal.

Besides, with all of the other dealers, you're just a name on a credit card receipt.

Am I the only one on the planet who doesn't like the finish on the Elite T? It looks like it was PAVED, or dipped into a dumptruck full of asphalt or something. I saw one in the store and felt like painting yellow and white lines on it and then gluing some small cars to it. ........Please don't kill me.........

Have you seen a "Lusty Red" one like mine? I'm thinking seafoam or robin egg blue lines would finsh it off real nice ...

The "Polane" splatter technique. Like the undercoating of a truck! I had to ask "what were they thinking?". But it grows on you how useful and utilitarian the finish is!

Before I sold it to EdensHarvest I thuroughly worked through my denial and learned to love it.

They also just happen to sound and play outstanding! No fear of dings or dents, just the sound!

The T and the 1718 are my favorite players. But even with as "ugly" as some people think it is (but that is totally in the eye of the beholder), the T is an AMAZING instrument.
