I have a 1986-6 Collectors edition, original owner for 20 years. After looking at the history section on Ovations web-site, it shows a different preamp (OP24+?)than the one I have (OP24). Wondering if they had a second option? Mine has a traditional round volume control, the one shown on the site has all sliders with EQ shift buttons. Just wondering if the OP24+ would fit the same hole as the orginal preamp. It looks close, but close isn't always close enough. Any feedback is appreciated. BTW, Great OFC Tour this year. Its my second and hope to do it again next year!

The picture of the guitar on the O web page shows the one with the round volume but the pre-amp picture at the bottom is the one with the sliders. Someone probably put the wrong pre-amp info at the bottom, I don't think they issued that guitar with 2 different pre-amps. I don't know if they are interchangable. Incidentally, all the pages around here (including guitar registration page) say the '83 Collector came with the OP24, but it didn't. It came with the old FET pre-amp with dual concentric volume and tone controls like the early '80s Legend. It's just on the side (because of the cutaway).

I think brainslag is right. I've seen the same mistake with some other guitars on the discontinued models list. My 87 Collector's has the OP24 and I'm fairly sure they wouldn't have gone back to an old one.

The website, for historical info, is not always correct. Ovation used the OP24 until the early 90's when it introduced the OP24 Plus, then the Optima and so on.

The 86 Collectors would have used the OP24.

If you look around on the website, it will also talk about the LX models having the OPP pickup, introduced in 1968. It was actually introduced in 1972.

Thanks all for the input. Like most web-sites,historical info can be inconsistent at times. I was most interested in finding if the OP24+ would fit the same hole and maybe get some newer sounds while being able to put it back to original if needed. I'll keep poking around. I should've asked at the OFC open house but never got around to it. thanks again.
