Location: Munich, Germany | It's kinda weird, but Ovation nowadays seems to give a sh#? about their limited runs on limited editions. For me it was really strange to read on this board about the 'not really limited run' of the '47's.
Now I got my factorynew 1651-7 RI, and I compared it with the pics on Tuppy's page. Serial number 5962... compared to mine being a Serial 6014... (compare, if interested, on Tuppy's and Jerome's page. Tuppy's RI has the mechanics with a pin- while mine has the new ones with screws).
I called Ovation Germany, and they told me, that they are still being built, as a custom order for Ovation Germany.
So, what about those limited runs? Sure, I am glad to have one of those guitars, I love it, but a limited run of 100's should be limited to a 100 guitars. Can Tuppy or anyone else owning one say now: "There were only 100's of them built, it is a truly collectible one"? When you can still order them in Germany?
Just wondering,
best regards,
Kurt |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I was told once by a factory employee that basically they could build any model guitar in their history as a custom order, within some limitations of course. Several years ago I was at the factory and saw a shiny bowl guitar being made. So "limited" is a very vague term. Is there 100 of the 1651's. Or 110 or them? It doesn't really matter as long as there are not 1000's of them. The attractive thing to me is that they are rare as hell in the US. Dave |

Location: Munich, Germany | That's a good point. Like I said, I am very happy to got one of those. And I see this guitar not really with the collector's eye, but with being happy having a brandnew 'old' Legend. But I remember a time when Ovation told me, that they could not build my custom order, because it was too close to a limited run (not speaking of special woods, but colour, finish and so on). Maybe they changed something. When I ordered my Custom Country Artist I was told, they can't brush it in Cadillac Greenburst, what I wanted, because they don't use this colour anymore. That is a different thing, but when they are so strict with colours (or have been), they should be it as well with limited editions. |

I have a 1651-7 RI too. It may be a collector or maybe not, but to me it's an everyday player. |

| Ovation Instruments can build any guitar they want to...they just have to 'want to'. There are many current paints and finishes, so setting up just to paint one guitar in 'cadillac greenburst' is probably cost prohibitive in regards to production scheduling, unless you give them a ton of money. |
