I Know this has the Cedar top, and it's a GC exclusive. The sales dude couldn't really give any spec info, other than what the hang tags had.

One of the Hang tags had the big "LX" features but this guitar obviously does not have a 5 piece neck it looks like a the 2 piece found on the regular S771 I guess it's the same material Mahogany. Also, mine came with the OP30 as part of the LX was this suppose to have an OPpro like My Elite 1778. I have noticed people changing Preamp/tuner assy sticking the wrong ones in what ever they want at GC. I really like this guitar, very nice. I went in looking for a Martin /Korean version that had a woody flavor ( I'm sure someone is going to run with this ) ended up getting that "Woody" feeling with this one. :D

I've never seen an LX that did not have a 5 piece neck. But anything is possible, I guess. Check if it has a truss rod cover. No cover = no LX. Dave

Dave, it has the TRC. but it seems like the little hang tag the Factory puts on it is a little miss leading, cause it goes through all the LX features such as the 5 piece neck, and the OPpro. I'm just guessing that this particular model being, a customer special for GC is their spec. It might incorporate just some of the LX features not all. Even the frets seem different from my 1778LX. When I picked it up, I looked at the Model ID tag inside the bowl, and I read GCS771LX-C. Interesting I think I might Have to drop an e-mail to the Mother-ship to get some spec's.
I use to go to Phoenix for training on the Garrett product line. Use to love getting in the rent-a-car going for a ride on Camelback, mucho road dust, then take it back to the rental place for a cleaning they weren't real happy but the ride was fun. :D

I have a two-year old GCS771-C. About six months after I got mine, some started showing up at GC with TRCs. But they didn't say "LX" anywhere on them. My thinking was that they had the LX truss rod and nothing else. Maybe now they get the lighter bowl, also????

I've noticed uninformed preamp swapping at GC, also....I keep pointing it out to the acoustic room people and they keep not bothering to correct them. They're just Ovations, who cares?

Pop inside and look at the bracing and if the neck is a bolt on!

I stopped at my local GC this evening and they have now gotten a GCS-771LX-C as well. It has the LX neck, and it has the lighter LX bowl. It is MUCH lighter than the one I have. cms-man did his usual beautiful job on the rosette.

A side note....they had a nice clean used 1121 for sale there...gee, did you all know it has a deep bowl??? Said so on the sale tag!!!!

OAO, the one you just saw -- which pre-amp did it have? Wish I lived closer that 120 miles to a GC (or most any well-stocked music store).

And, what is GC getting for it? Sounds tempting.

edzep, the tag reads $779.00 in Dallas, but that is always just a starting point. I have noticed quite an increase at the first of the year on all the Ovation product line. No different than the other manufactures I guess. The GCS771LX-C is rather nice but than so is the GCS771's that aren't LX'd.

The GCS771LX-C I looked at had the OP30, just like my GCS771-C. I didn't remember the price, but $779 sounds right.

Should it be coming with the opPRO? My GCS771LX-C came with an OP30.

There is a big picture that this discussion isn't taking into account.
Some of the original LX features were "value-added" items (neck binding,OpPro), while others were the result of an updating of the manufacturing process (GS bowls, new neck design).
If you've been on a factory tour, you've seen new CNC equipment designed to make guitars with features unavailable in the past. Some of these things are part of regular production and some are options easily switched. For instance...it's easy to make a neck blank in either 2 pc or 5 pc, but the new neck design is the way they're doing production now. They still make K Bar necks to an extent, but clearly it's not the mainstream method.
To put it another way, it is cheaper to make the 2 pc neck (cheaper being the idea behind the Baladeer and Elite Specials), but it's easier and (in a production sense) probably cheaper to make the new neck design. If it makes anyone feel better, they told us on the tour that the biggest difference between the 2 and 5 pc necks is cosmetic.
Have I said too much? John <>{

The 5 piece neck is an Ovation trademark so even tho' it's not needed anymore for strength, and they now use slimmer pieces of wood for the middle sections to save money, they still do the 5 piece necks because it says "Ovation".

As to the price increases, I apologize for that..... some here will know what I'm talking about....

Moody, I had heard that the new truss rod design allowed a 2-piece neck to be as strong as the 5-piece neck, but I still find it hard to believe. Probably just psychological...Aren't most Adamas' made with 5 piece necks?

Steve, the original Adamas I was a 2 piece walnut neck. The KBar was so strong, that 5 piece necks weren't needed. Keep in mind that 5 piece necks were first used in the 60's with just a truss rod.

The new necks, with the duel truss rods and graphite strips are very strong whether using 2 piece of 5 piece necks.

A one piece neck, 2 piece, 5 piece etc. alone does not dictate a stronger or weaker neck. It's how you build it that matters.

As far as Adamas, the Adamas II, CVT, SMT U681, W681 and ME series were 5 piece necks. Adamas I were never 5 piece. The new Adamas Premier and Cateye guitars are 1 peice necks.

Paul M., we forgive you, as long as Ovation/Adamas keeps on making great guitars..... :)

Yes, it is neck construction that makes the difference, along with good quality wood....the slim slices used now on the 5-piece necks don't do much for strength. Sure look nice, though.
