Location: Scotland | The dead giveaway is the flag and drum stencil on the treble side, lower bout. The nutmeg finish colour was unique at the time, but was used again on the Legend LTD I think (the Lennon model) |

Location: New Hampsha | Thanks Paul. There's a Patriot on Ebay but it's missing the label inside the bowl. So how does one tell what serial number it is? Is the Serial number etched or engraved anywhere? Doesn't seem to be onthe back of the headstock like other "O"s. |

Location: Scotland | On the Patriot the total made was 1776, and the guitar's sequential number within that total was hand written on the label. As Jeff suggested there may be a regular Ovation seral number on a sticker, but that wont help any more than year of manufacture, which we already know was '76/77. The Patriot came with a certificate. If the seller still has this the sequential number may be there. |

Location: CT | If for some reason the stencilled drum is missing, The Patriot had a wooden truss rod cover with an abalone diamond inlay. The Legend Ltd. had a plain black plastic truss rod cover. Also, a dead giveaway is the Patriots abalone neck inlays vs. the Legend and Legend Ltd. mother of pearl inlay. |

Location: New Hampsha | There's no doubt that the item is a Patriot 1776, but the absence of a body tag seems to pretty seriously hamper it's collectability, especially if there's no other way to get a serial number. I assume that with a serial number the nice folks at the factory could re-issue or recreate the missing label. But without it? |
